MINISTERIAL VISIT TO WALVIS BAY PORT & BOTSWANA DRY PORT
The Honourable Keoagile Atamelang, Botswana’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, was on an official visit to Namibia aimed at strengthening regional transport, logistics and trade connectivity. The Minister was accompanied by a delegation comprising of Botswana Railways PS in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Pius Seone, Deputy PS, Johanes Tsimako, Botswana Railways Board Chairperson, Chris Hughes, Botswana Railways, Caretaker General Manager Okitanye Gaogane.
As part of the MINISTERIAL VISIT TO WALVIS BAY PORT & BOTSWANA DRY PORT
The Minister toured Walvis Bay Port and SeaRail Namibia (Pty) Ltd – Botswana Dry Port, gaining insight into port operations and the strategic role of the dry port in supporting the Walvis Bay–Trans-Kalahari Corridor.
During the meeting, SeaRail was represented by Managing Director Derick Mokgatle , Finance and Administration Manager Amadea Izaak and Operations Manager Paul Ndelelwa. During his presentation, Mr. Mokgatle highlighted the dry port’s potential to facilitate trade, improve cargo movement and enhance regional logistics efficiency. He also shared that construction has commenced on an additional 5,000 m² under-roof storage facility, expanding the existing 2,000 m² capacity to meet growing demand.
The Minister emphasised the importance of accelerating the development of dry port infrastructure and translating regional connectivity ambitions into concrete, measurable and timely results.
The visit reaffirmed the importance of the Walvis Bay–Trans-Kalahari Corridor in strengthening Namibia - Botswana trade, regional integration and economic development.
