Phillips Cave is a cave shelter in insoluble granite rocks, formed by erosion. It is located on the Ameib Game Ranch in the Erongo Mountains, between Swakopmund and Usakos. The name "Ameib" itself means "green place" โ€” and true to its name, the farm is a surprising green oasis set amidst spectacular granite landscapes.

It was named after the former owner of the farm, Emil Philip, who discovered the cave and the Bushman paintings.

The most famous painting is the "White Elephant" into which, probably at a later stage, a small red antelope has been drawn. Furthermore, drawings of giraffes, rhinos, ostriches, springbok, kudus and also 6 imprints of human hands are found.

The cave became widely known because it was visited by Abbรฉ Henri Breuil in 1950. He published the results of the C14 dating of remains from the cave, which was 3368 BC ยฑ 200 years. Stone tools, dated to 3500 BC, found in the cave strongly support the assumption that it was most probably one of the San dwellings.

The tour explores the ancient deserts of Namibia โ€” the Kalahari, an exceptionally beautiful living desert and large semi-arid sandy savannah draped over a gently rolling inland sea of sand, and Sossusvlei, where the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib stand towering over the white desert plains. Enclosed by the ever-changing, restless movement of the dunes on the east and the pounding waves of the Atlantic Ocean to the west lies the historic town of Swakopmund, gateway to the Skeleton Coast.

This is a beautifully compact and perfectly balanced tour โ€” two of the world's most extraordinary desert landscapes, followed by the drama of the Atlantic coast, all in a single, manageable week.

This tour is a masterclass in Namibian contrasts.

The journey from the Kalahari through to the coast is one of the most visually dramatic transitions in all of Africa โ€” from burning red desert sands to misty ocean air in just a few days. It's the ideal introduction to Namibia for first-time visitors, or a focused highlight tour for those with limited time.

The Pied Kingfisher is a water kingfisher species spread throughout Asia, the Middle East and Africa. It is recognisable through its black-and-white plumage and crest. One of the very few kingfisher species without any blue or green in its plumage.

Males have two complete black bands across their chest, while females have one complete band and one broken or faded band in the centre. The Pied Kingfisher measures 25โ€“28 cm in length, including bill and tail.

One of the most widespread and conspicuous kingfishers in the Old World, the Pied Kingfisher is famous for its distinctive hovering flight โ€” hanging almost motionless over water on rapidly beating wings before plunging down after fish, a behaviour that makes it one of the easiest kingfishers to observe and enjoy.

Pied kingfishers inhabit any water body that has small fish. They are mostly resident, moving only for seasonal changes, usually in large numbers, believed to be in response to changing water levels.

In Namibia, Pied Kingfishers are found at Epupa Falls, the Kunene River estuary, Rundu, Bwabwata National Park, the Kwando River region extending to the Chobe River, Chobe National Park, and also in scattered populations extending throughout the southern regions including Etosha National Park, Windhoek down to the Fish River Canyon and the Orange River. In Namibia, Pied Kingfishers are most common in the northeast in the vicinity of rivers.

This exceptional tour invites guests to experience the Zambezi Region from different perspectives โ€” joining the Caprivians in song and dance at the traditional heritage centre, saluting wizened elephant giants in Bwabwata National Park, enjoying luxurious solitude on the banks of the Chobe River, and visiting one of the largest colonies of Carmine Bee-eaters at the majestic Zambezi River.

This is Namibia at its most lush, most water-rich and most wildlife-abundant โ€” a complete contrast to the desert landscapes most people associate with the country, and arguably one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences in all of southern Africa.

This tour is truly one of Namibia's most special and underrated experiences. While most visitors come to Namibia for the desert landscapes, this tour reveals a completely different country โ€” lush, green, water-rich and teeming with wildlife. Staying on three different rivers in eight days, with the bonus of cross-border access to Chobe and Victoria Falls, makes it an extraordinary value proposition for wildlife enthusiasts, birdwatchers, photographers and anyone wanting to experience the full breadth of what Namibia has to offer.

Located on the Andoni Plains and only 1 kilometer from the King Nehale Gate - Etosha National Park's northern entrance gate - you'll find Gondwana Collection Namibia's ๐„๐ญ๐จ๐ฌ๐ก๐š ๐Š๐ข๐ง๐  ๐๐ž๐ก๐š๐ฅ๐ž.

With the Oshiwambo culture in mind, Etosha King Nehale has been designed and decorated to pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of the area. From the moment guests enter the reception, curio shop, boma and dining areas, the Oshiwambo culture comes alive through vibrant colours, intricate fabrics, custom cutlery, chandeliers, and table engravings with meaningful proverbs, creating a unique and authentic atmosphere.

The lodge's design mimics the shape of a Nguni cattle head, with 40 chalets elegantly extending north and south from the central area, resembling a bull's horns.

There is one detail that puts this lodge over the top โ€” its private access to a secluded waterhole, which is set inside the Etosha National Park. This waterhole is reserved exclusively for Etosha King Nehale guests, allowing them to immerse themselves in the tranquillity of nature and observe the rich diversity of the animal world in this corner of paradise.

Klein Aus Vista provides the perfect base to explore south-western Namibia, as a destination in itself or a perfect halfway stop en route from the Fish River Canyon to the red dunes of Sossusvlei or vice versa.

The attractive and airy rooms are painted a deep, rich sienna that glows alluringly in the late afternoon sunshine. Desert Horse Inn is imbued with the energy of the desert horses, adding a spirited component to the warmth of the family-owned lodge.

The Wild Horses of the Namib have roamed this harsh habitat since 1915 and are an experience one should not miss. Just 20km from Aus, on the way to or back from Lรผderitz, visit the Garub waterhole where the wild horses and several other animals of the desert plains can be found.

Quiver trees, Nama culture, rugged landscape, and an impressive sweeping rock formation characterise Canyon Village. Forty-two stone-and-thatch Cape-Dutch-Cottage style chalets are positioned in a horseshoe design around a celebration of young quiver trees and the sprawling thatched central area, serving as a restaurant, bar, lounge and reception.

An ox-wagon with hundreds of years of history ingrained in its wood stands in the buffet area, and a well-preserved horse cart has been placed amongst the boulders in the cosy bar. These homely touches bring warmth and intrigue to a lodge.
