UMZA AIR COMMENCES FLIGHT OPERATIONS IN GOMBE, STRENGTHENING AIR CONNECTIVITY IN THE NORTHEAST

Gombe International Airport today recorded another significant milestone in its growth and development as Umza Air officially commenced commercial flight operations on the Gombe–Abuja and Abuja–Gombe route with its inaugural flight.

The inaugural flight was warmly received by the airport community led by the Sole Administrator of Gombe International Airport, Engr. Suleiman Daniel Musa, alongside members of the airport's top management team and other stakeholders. The arrival of the airline marks an important addition to the growing number of carriers operating from Gombe, further enhancing air transportation services within the state and the Northeast region.

As part of its operational schedule, Umza Air will operate flights on the Gombe–Abuja–Gombe route five times weekly — Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The schedule is expected to provide greater convenience and flexibility for passengers while improving access between Gombe State and the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking during the reception, the Sole Administrator, Engr. Suleiman Daniel Musa, welcomed Umza Air to Gombe and expressed confidence that the commencement of operations would contribute significantly to improving connectivity, boosting economic activities, facilitating business travel, and providing passengers with more travel options.

He assured the airline of the full support and cooperation of the Government of Gombe State and the entire airport community, emphasizing the airport's commitment to creating an enabling environment for airlines and aviation stakeholders.

Engr. Suleiman Daniel Musa noted that the entry of Umza Air into the Gombe route reflects the growing attractiveness of Gombe International Airport as a strategic aviation hub serving not only Gombe State but also neighboring states across the Northeast.

The commencement of operations is expected to provide greater convenience for travelers, enhance regional integration, support tourism and commerce, and further strengthen the position of Gombe as a gateway to the Northeast.

Passengers and air transport users across Gombe State and the region are encouraged to take advantage of the new flight services, which offer additional travel options and improved connectivity between Gombe and Abuja.

PRESS RELEASE

The Management of Gombe International Airport wishes to inform the general public that the serious security breach which occurred at the Airport on 15th July, 2026 where some miscreants invaded security restricted areas is currently under investigation by the appropriate security agencies.

During the incident, a large number of unauthorised persons bearing arms unlawfully gained access into security-restricted areas of the Airport, damaged Government property, disrupted airport operations, intimidated airport personnel and security operatives, and compromised the safety and security of airport users. Such actions constitute grave violations of established aviation security procedures and the laws governing the protection of critical national infrastructure.

The Airport Management wishes to remind the public that following the earlier incident of 10th July, 2026, a public disclaimer and warning were issued expressly prohibiting the use of Airport facilities for unlawful activities and warning that any person found violating airport security regulations would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

In line with that commitment, Management immediately reported the latest incident to the relevant security agencies. A number of suspects have since been arrested, while investigations remain ongoing to identify all persons connected with the unlawful acts. Further actions will be taken based on the outcome of those investigations and in accordance with the law.

These measures are solely intended to protect the safety and security of passengers, aircraft, airport personnel and critical aviation infrastructure, and to ensure strict compliance with applicable aviation security regulations.

Management therefore reiterates its zero tolerance policy towards any form of unlawful entry into restricted areas, destruction of Government property, intimidation of public officers, disruption of airport operations, or any other act capable of compromising aviation safety and security. Any individual or group that engages in such conduct, regardless of status or affiliation, will be reported to the appropriate authorities and will face the full consequences of the law.

The Management of Gombe International Airport appreciates the cooperation of law-abiding members of the public and assures all airport users of its unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe, secure and professionally managed airport environment.

PUBLIC DISCLAIMER AND WARNING

The Management of Gombe International Airport has observed with serious concern an incident that occurred within the airport premises involving a group of individuals who gained access to the restricted airside under the guise of an excursion but subsequently engaged in political activities by openly eulogising a political figure, thereby causing public nuisance, disrupting normal airport operations, and creating unnecessary embarrassment to airport users and management.

The management unequivocally condemns this conduct and wishes to state that Gombe International Airport is a safety-sensitive, security-restricted, and politically neutral public facility. The Airport does not permit, endorse, or condone political campaigns, rallies, demonstrations, endorsements, or any form of partisan political activity within its premises, particularly within restricted operational areas.

Access privileges granted to airport personnel, visitors, or excursion groups are strictly for legitimate operational, official, educational, or authorised purposes. Any misuse of such privileges constitutes a serious breach of airport regulations and will attract appropriate administrative and legal sanctions.

Accordingly, all airport staff, personnel of agencies operating at the airport, concessionaires, visitors, and members of the general public are hereby strongly warned to desist from using any part of the airport for political activities or any conduct capable of compromising airport security, disrupting operations, or bringing the airport into disrepute.

Management is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident, and any individual found to have facilitated, encouraged, or participated in such misconduct will be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with applicable regulations, without prejudice to any civil or criminal action that may be instituted by the relevant authorities.

The management remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, professionalism, and political neutrality in accordance with applicable aviation regulations and expects the full cooperation of all stakeholders.

: The Amirul Hajj of Gombe State, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abdulkadir Haruna Rasheed, Emir of Dukku, returned from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia alongside Gombe State pilgrims following the successful completion of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

His return marks the conclusion of a journey dedicated to providing leadership and guidance to the state's pilgrims throughout the Hajj exercise.

We thank Almighty Allah for granting him and all the pilgrims a successful Hajj and a safe return home.

: The First Lady of Gombe State, Her Excellency Hajiya Asmau Inuwa Yahaya, returned from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia alongside the final batch of Gombe State pilgrims after the successful completion of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

Their arrival marks the successful conclusion of this year's Hajj airlift operations, as pilgrims were warmly received at Gombe International Airport following a spiritually fulfilling journey.
