Serious Incident at Montréal–Trudeau Airport

A serious accident occurred Monday evening at Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL) after an airport community employee was struck by an aircraft on the tarmac at about 7:30 p.m. local time.
The aircraft involved was operated by French bee and was preparing to depart for Paris. The employee, reportedly a ground worker or marshaller, was taken to hospital with serious, reportedly critical injuries.

Aéroports de Montréal confirmed that emergency procedures were activated following the accident involving the aircraft and an airport employee. Montréal police also attended the scene, while the incident is being treated as a workplace accident and will be referred to CNESST for further investigation.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has also confirmed that it is aware of the incident.
At this stage, the exact circumstances remain unclear. There have been reports that the worker may have fallen or tripped before being struck, but this has not been officially confirmed.

The incident also caused disruptions at the airport as emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene, affecting aircraft operations and passengers.

Our thoughts are with the injured worker, his family, colleagues and everyone affected by this tragic incident.

FROM METAR TO MENTOR

Our Beacon for the month of July is an experienced Flight Dispatcher with over 5 years in Airline Operations. Before attaining this peak,he was an aviation enthusiast, passionate about the sector and pushed for how he could be an enthusiast and more. The thirst for impact led him into a profession which is considered to be the centre of safe operations but not often recognized or regarded "FLIGHT DISPATCH"
Tochukwu Chukwuma trained at the Universal School of Aviation and became certified by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. His current role at Umza Air is to make sure every flight is safe, properly planned, on time, planning routes, weather check, fuel calculation, and making sure all flights meet aviation standards.
In order to contribute his quota in bringing his profession into limelight and also to attain its due recognition,Chukwuma makes efficient use of social media in publishing articles that explain aviation concepts which oversees various subsectors in the industry, providing education on METARs, TAFs , NOTAMs, Runaway analysis, fuel calculation, and even job opportunities and vacancies in a way that is accessible to students and aviation professionals .
Additionally he offers an affordable form of mentorship for youths who are trying to navigate their way into the industry, providing them the relevant guidance and expertise until the goal is achieved. His educational posts have become a learning resource for aspiring flight dispatchers and aviation enthusiasts interested in airline operations. His impact goes thus far beyond METAR,he is a BEACON and AEROTRIBE recognizes

Do you know the landing gear supports an aircraft every moment it is on the ground?

Many people think the landing gear is only important during landing.

But from the moment an aircraft leaves the gate until it takes off, and from touchdown until it parks, the landing gear is doing its job.

It carries the full weight of the aircraft, helps it move safely on the taxiway, supports braking, allows steering, and absorbs the force of landing.

That's why engineers inspect the landing gear carefully. Every tire, wheel, brake, and component must be in good condition before the next flight.

A safe flight doesn't begin in the sky.

It begins on the ground, with a landing gear system that is ready for the journey.

✈️ Why Do Aircraft Cabin Lights Go Off During Takeoff and Landing?

Have you ever wondered why the cabin lights suddenly go off just before takeoff or landing?

Is it to save electricity?

No.

Is it to help passengers sleep?

Not at all.

So, why do they do it?

Because every second matters in an emergency.

Dimming the cabin lights allows your eyes to adjust to the darkness outside.

If an emergency evacuation becomes necessary, passengers and cabin crew can see outside more clearly, identify the safest exit, and react much faster.

Can something as simple as turning off the lights save lives?

Absolutely.

In aviation, there are no unnecessary procedures. Every action is backed by safety, science, and years of experience.

The lesson?

The smallest safety measures often make the biggest difference. What looks like a simple switch of the lights is actually a silent preparation to protect every life on board.

In aviation, safety isn't accidental, it's intentional.
