DID YOU KNOW

In 1972, Dundee United, a Scottish football team, embarked on a pre-season tour of Nigeria. The tour turned out to be disastrous, with United struggling against local teams. Dundee United secured a 2-2 draw against Stationery Stores on May 27, 1972. The pinnacle of this misfortune was a 2-0 loss to Enugu Rangers in front of a sizable crowd. Many already placed their bet on the big Scottish team winning all matches against a lower tier Nigerian teams.

The phrase "Dundee United" likely stems from this challenging tour, becoming embedded in the Naija lexicon as a word for a " F00l", even till date.

🔙 21 years ago, one of the most SCANDALOUS and OUTRAGEOUS refereeing in a World Cup took place. Italy and South Korea (2002 World Cup host) were facing each other in the Round of 16. Byron Moreno was the referee, and he went down in history:

➜ 3': penalty for Korea after a non-existent foul, Buffon saves it
➜ 49': Kim Tae-Young (who already had a yellow card) elbows Del Piero. Should have been a red...
➜ 90': Lee Chun-Soo kicks Maldini in the head on a 50-50 ball on the ground
➜ First half of extra time: clear penalty against Totti. Moreno books him for the second time and sends him off after two yellows...
➜ 110': Tommasi scores a valid goal, Moreno overturns it...

😱 With three minutes to go on extra time, Ahn Jung-Hwan scores the winner, knocking the Azzurri out. Jung-Hwan actually played in Italy at the time, and his club, Perugia, terminated his contract after the World Cup.

🤯 And the referee? Moreno would stop refereeing a year later after many suspensions and suspicions of match fixing in Ecuador. In 2010, he got arrested in New York trying to smuggle six kilos of he**in into the United States.

STRAIGHT OUT OF A MOVIE. 😳⛔️

HAND OF GOD
In June 22 1986 in Mexico,A football Icon scored two Iconic goals for Argentina against England at Fifa world cup,The first goal was controversial as DIEGO AMANDO MARADONA scored with his hands and punched it into the net beyond the reach of LEGENDARY England Goalkeeper Peter Shilton, despite English fans and players protest, the goal stood as the Tunisian referee in charge couldn't see it as handball, however He scored even more iconic second goal thereafter beating six England players including the Goalkeeper to score the FIFA GOAL OF THE CENTURY,and surely England has no excuse for the second goal,it ended 2:1 in favor of Argentina with Gary Lineker scoring England only goal, Argentina went on to win the tournament beating West Germany 3:2 in the final with the assist supplied by DIEGO AMANDO MARADONA himself against a German team having Beckernbuer etc to win the cup for Argentina, the second time they won it in their history after 1978 victory

Oceanic, the predecessor of , was built in 1899. Until 1901, it held the title of the largest ship in the world. The vessel was constructed for the White Star Line and embarked on its maiden voyage in the same year.

During the late 1800s, maritime technology advanced rapidly, leading White Star Line's competitors, Norddeutscher Lloyd and Cunard Line, to introduce state-of-the-art ships. To keep up with the competition, White Star Line needed to produce its own flagship capable of rivaling them.

Following a strategy of prioritizing luxury over speed, Oceanic was built in Belfast and had a capacity for 1,710 passengers, including 410 in First Class, 300 in Second Class, and 1,000 in Third Class, along with 349 crew members. The ship was launched on January 14, 1899, with an audience of over 50,000 spectators. It would become the largest and final British liner launched in the 19th century.

When World War I broke out in 1914, Oceanic was commissioned into Royal Navy service on August 8th of that year as an armed merchant cruiser. In the same year, it set sail from Southampton to patrol the waters from the North Scottish mainland to the Faroes, specifically the area around Shetland. However, Oceanic ran aground and was wrecked off the island of Foula, Shetland in September 1914.

Six (6) things to know about Queen of England, Elizabeth ii.

1. Elizabeth was born on 21 April 1926, during the reign of her paternal grandfather, King George V. Her father, the Duke of York (later King George VI), was the second son of the King.

2. She didn’t go to school like a regular kid: Heirs apparent don’t just show up to primary school like normal kids. Instead, Elizabeth was tutored at home during sessions by different teachers like Henry Marten, vice-provost of Eton College (which is still for boys only), and was also given private religion lessons by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

3. She served in World War II: Elizabeth who was trained as a truck driver and mechanic in 1945, when she was 18 years old was the only female Royal Family member to have entered the armed forces, and until her death, was the only living head of state who officially served in World War II.

4. She married her cousin: Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and Queen Elizabeth were third cousins; both share the same great-great-grandparents: Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

5. She chose her own surname: Technically, the Queen’s last name was “Windsor,” which was first chosen by George V in 1917 after the Royal Family wanted to distance themselves from “Saxe-Coburg-Gotha”—the dynasty to which they belonged—for sounding too Germanic during World War I. But as a way to distinguish themselves from the rest of the Royal Family, in 1960 Elizabeth and Philip adopted the official surname Windsor-Mountbatten.

Like most British monarchs, Elizabeth got to celebrate her birthday twice, and the reason why boils down to seasonably appropriate pomp and circumstance.

6. She had two birthdays: As stated earlier, she was born on April 21, 1926, but April was deemed too cold and liable to fall during inclement weather. So instead, her official state-recognized birthday occurred on a Saturday in late May,or more typically June,so that the celebration could be held during the warmer months.
