Before you take a loan, pause for a minute.

Getting access to money can solve an immediate problem, but the wrong loan can create another problem if you don’t understand what you’re signing up for.

Before you borrow, here are 5 things worth checking:

1️⃣ WHY DO YOU NEED THE LOAN?

Be specific about what the money is for.

Is it for an urgent personal need? Business expenses? Working capital? A planned purchase?

Knowing exactly why you’re borrowing helps you determine whether taking the loan is actually the right decision.

2️⃣ CAN YOU AFFORD THE REPAYMENT?

Don’t only think about how much you need today.

Think about the repayment.

Look at your income, existing financial commitments and other expenses, then ask yourself whether the repayment fits realistically into your finances.

3️⃣ WHAT IS THE TOTAL COST OF THE LOAN?

The amount you receive isn’t necessarily the amount you’ll pay back.
