MY DILEMMA AS A PACKAGING AND BRANDING PROFESSIONAL
"Mr Shawns, I want you to produce some boxes 🎁 for me, I am not sure of the colours yet, I think I want it to be thick but not really that thick. A mix of rectangle and a bit of square."
"It can be colourful but not too colourful, there could be see through top and partially covered too..just something very nice and really attractive..."
"So how much is the cost 💰 and can I get them by weekend ❓"
Believe me, that was the brief I got from a particular client sometime back, to say I was confused 🤔 would be an understatement‼️
The needs and wants of clients in the printing and packaging industry are as diverse as the Chameleon and as shapeless as the Amoeba 🦠
Some mistakes I have identified over the years are:
1. Assuming the cost of production should be static
2. Assuming the permanent availability of materials
3. Assuming a specific design and quality is not achievable within Nigeria
4. Not having a broad enough product range to deal with sudden change in government policy direction
5. Over expectation in terms of delivery timelines...
Well, for over a decade now we have evolved, learnt, un learnt and had to relearn in order to meet whatever is thrown at us.
A major part of our process is discussing in detail the requirements of each project and coming to agreeable deliverables on materials, timeline, material availability, design concept, current cost implications and several other misconceptions in the industry to help us give the best to the customer, as often as possible. ✍️
We aren't there yet but we are definitely on course to being an industry leader in a few years time.
