Not so long ago I had the opportunity to meet some African auto traders in the CHINA at an automobile action. They are among numerous businessmen and women from the continent who travel across the world to purchase goods with which to replenish their inventories. They made such trips several times a year for relatively small purchases, accumulating costs through airfare and hotel accommodations among others. While on a research trip in Lagos studying Nigerian transnational entrepreneurship, I observed another group of small-scale auto traders who depend solely on vehicles purchased from wholesalers in a neighbouring country at significantly marked up prices. In addition, this group has to negotiate the risks and complexities involved in bringing their goods across the border by road. Speaking with these two groups of traders and looking closely at their transactions, I reasoned that there existed a lot of avoidable costs and risks. If only they had access to a central, efficient and reliable procurement agency to represent their interest in the primary markets for their goods, they will be saving a lot of time and costs. Some of those avoidable costs, which are passed on to end-users, could be eliminated, creating better value for both traders and consumers. But there exists a justifiable skepticism of how other people will handle their capital and represent their interest. It is these encounters that led to the birth of Kiandox International Limited. For us this problem of high logistical cost and limited market access drawn from the experience of the two groups has broad implications for traders of various goods and even more for the consuming public who depend on their imported products. Now at Kiandox, we are working tirelessly to improve on our efficient and reliable corporate institution to serve these two groups of traders/businesses and consumers. We work to create efficiencies for small and established businesses that depend on international trade.
