Happy National Coffee Day! ☕

Definitely wishing I was back in Costa Rica where the coffee was phenomenal, and everything was sloth themed 🦥

We saw this coffee shop on our way to ziplining, and on the way back myself, and my friends Kristin & Kelly convinced our driver to make a very off itinerary pit stop purely so we could get coffee here 😅

Definitely a highlight of the trip but honestly not nearly as much of a highlight as actually seeing a sloth!

Planning couples trips is just so fun to me but embarrassingly enough I could not tell you the last time my husband and I went on together 😬 Life’s just been really full lately between work, kids, my work travel and all the extracurricular activities.

But we’re changing that in 2027 and feel free to steal how we’re doing it 👇

Step one: sit down together with every calendar you own, and find a window of time.

Step two: pick a max number of days you’re comfortable going and pick a destination that works with that.

Step three: put a deposit down. This is the part that actually makes it real, because once money’s on the table, you find a way to make the rest work.

Step four: figure out the logistics AFTER you commit, not before. Childcare, coverage at work, whatever it is - you’ll solve it. But you solve it because you already committed, not the other way around.

That’s it. That’s the whole plan 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know it sounds way easier than we feel it is but it does work! We’re doing this for ourselves for 2027, and I think you should do the same.

Please stop asking “when is the best time to go?” 🫠

That is dependent on so many things like: What do you want to see? What do you want your trip to feel like? If you’re visiting somewhere like the Algarve or Amalfi are you planning on doing something in the water or do you just want to be on the coast?

But also - what if someone answers with this one cool thing and then you’re like “oh wow so cool, however I am only available that first week of August”. And then you find out that lavender on Hvar is in fact not super pretty that month and now you’re devastated.

OR you could say “hey we’re planning on traveling to Portugal in August for a week, who visited then and what did you do?”. The answers you will receive will be far more accurate to when you can travel.

And if you’re just not sure about any of that and don’t want to ask a social media group then my DM’s are open and waiting for you 🩷

We all know I love talking travel, so when VoyageRaleigh reached out about their Inspiring Conversations series I was over the moon (a whole interview about my why for travel? Sign. Me. Up. 👏)

I got to really dive into the whole reason why I love doing what I do — including how this slower, more connected way of traveling found me, and why it's the only way I personally travel now.

I also get real about the fact that this is not a side gig. This job doesn't have a punch out time. Your flight delay does not care that I just got to soccer practice — I'm right there texting you things that will (hopefully) make you laugh, and encouraging you to get that glass of w**e and ice cream for the kids.

Less than 3 years ago I walked away from a not-so-beige but super stressful corporate job. Zero regrets. Joining Postcard & Co and creating More Than The Postcard has been the best adventure, and I genuinely love my job.

Let’s talk about the “they won’t remember it anyway” argument, because I’m calling you out on it. Because just because they may not “remember” doesn’t mean you won’t, and when did that become less important?

Somewhere in between making magic for kids, school drop off, finding yourself still as a friend and not having mom as your identity we just lost that your memories matter too. You remembering is just as important, and guess what? Stories and photo albums exist for a reason.

One of my favorite Disney memories is something neither of my girls remember. It’s them meeting Anna and Elsa at ages 3 & 5. Literal magic was in their eyes and they don’t remember a darn thing about it. But it’s one of my top 5 favorite memories of them.

So next time your neighbor, cousin, in law or literal stranger on the internet says “oh just wait until their older” say “no thanks, I know that the memories I make are just as important”. Then pour that glass of w**e and pat yourself on the back.

Just one little adjustment in HOW you’re asking for help is going to make the biggest difference friends.

I love a good community resource but when you’re asking for the “best” cruise line you’re going to get a minimum of 100 comments, 85% will probably be unhelpful. NOT because the people aren’t right - I’m sure the cruise monkeypants2021 went on was ah-mazing! But that doesn’t mean it’s the best one for YOU!

I talk about this all the time in my Facebook group, not everyone travels the same. So instead try saying “who has been on an Alaskan cruise? What cruise line did you sail on and did you like it?” That will get you MUCH better advice and less noise.

Every millennial and older has a similar story. It’s this collective moment that I don’t think any of us will forget.

We can all tell you where we were, how we found out, and I would guess the majority of us had a real fear of traveling after this.

25 years later doesn’t mean it’s easier, but it does mean that we have a new generation we can teach about what it was like. No matter how you’re processing today I’m sending you a hug, and I know that I’ll be squeezing my girls a little extra tonight 💙❤️

September is one of my favorite months to travel 🍂 it’s the transition month between summer and fall in Europe and the Americas, making it one of those great pockets of time to go.

I’ve rounded up the boutique hotels that I have my eye on this month, and let me tell you this round-up has something for a range of travelers. There’s a w**e estate in Portugal that screams being made for a multigenerational group. A townhouse hotel in London’s SoHo that would be perfect for a girls’ trip, and an adults-only stay in Crete worth considering and that I’m convinced will show you there’s more to the Greek islands than what you see on social media.

If you want to know what to look for in a hotel when you’re traveling with kids then you need to buckle in for this reel.

Guys - just because a hotel says it’s family friendly does not mean it will work for all ages. Read that again.

Your toddler needs different things from a hotel than your elementary aged kid, and they need different things than a teenager. If you’re looking for JUST family friendly then you my friend are just barely touching the surface.

But guess what a Google search won’t tell you? It won’t tell you that there are 15 steps to get in and you’re going to be struggling to get that stroller up. It also won’t tell you that your teen isn’t going to have a cool rooftop view to send to their friends.

The number one reason I tell people they need to take their kids internationally is this :

School cannot teach them empathy and teach them to truly understand what other cultures are like. They can’t read these in a book (and I read a lot of books so I feel like I would know).

School cannot show your kids that to-go cups of coffee just aren’t a thing in Italy, but that meals themselves there are meant to be enjoyed at a slower pace. It can’t show them how a hotel in Arenal, Costa Rica opened up a wildlife sanctuary on site to help care for wildlife that were being held illegally as pets.

School can teach our kids TONS of stuff but some things they need to be out in the world to experience, and see to learn. To me, empathy and how other cultures live and operate on a daily basis is one of them.

I know it seems scary but I promise it’s not. If it’s feeling all too overwhelming right now but you know you want to do it - then I’m so glad you’re here friend 🤎
