Although we’re still relatively overobsessed with ‘doing’, we’re clearly seeing that slowing down, or taking moments to slow down, is becoming normalised and cultivated. Moreover slowing down, slow living, simple living, selfcare; they have become commercialised markets with booming businessess! I myself have been forced to take the long view on this trend and carefully observe what is actually going on and where I wish to position myself in the trend of slow, minimalism and aestheticism.
A few words on what Slow is about for us.
Slow for us describes a quality of being. It is about training the mind to observe which automatic patterns are present and consequently create space to make different choices than we are used to making. Choices that help us grow personally, in life, in relationships with others, in work.
Slow has little to do with individualism and everything to do with connection. It is not about creating trigger safe zones around our individual lives. It is about recognizing our own triggers, recognizing what healthy boundaries are for us and creating space and learning and growing together.
Slow is about holding space, also with unlikeminded people, pausing judgement, listening carefully and cultivating curiosity. This is where growth happens. We don’t need to grow when everything we already believe in is always being confirmed by the people we surround ourselves with.
Slow is about resilience. Bad things happen in everybody’s life. Knowing how to recognise your story and give value to your story is the key to a resilient life. It’s about constantly recreating the narrative of your life.
Slow is about a creative mind. We are all creatures of creation. How can we feed and tap into this powerful source? (to continue in the comments)
