So far solar energy supplier only 2% of the total energy demand in the Netherlands. But if all of the suitable roofs were covered with PV panels, solar energy could account for 50% of the country's energy demand.

What is needed to make Amsterdam energy-neutral by 2040?

- all new buildings are gas-free

- connecting 26,000 homes to the heating network every year

- installing 140,000 m2 of solar panels every year = 325 panels per working day (therefore having 48 installers permanentely at work for the next 20 years)

- five of the largest wind turbines on land (4 MW) per year during the next twenty years, ie one hundred in total

Amsterdam is the least car-dependent city in the Nederlandse!
A benchmark from CE Delft shows that there are major differences in car use between the different Dutch cities. In Amsterdam, cars are used in around 25% of the trips, compared to 50% in cities such as Emmen and Heerlen.

Amsterdam, Utrecht en Rotterdam bieden fietsers, voetgangers en gebruikers van openbaar vervoer de beste voorzieningen en zijn schoner dan andere gemeenten.

Booking.com and Rooftop Revolution are joining forces to help the City of Amsterdam reach its goal of creating 50,000 m2 of green roofs. How?
