I met this magnificent Highland cow near Sconser, quietly standing in the landscape as if posing for the camera was all part of the day.

That calm stare, the windswept coat and the unmistakable character of the Highlands — exactly the kind of moment I love finding in Scotland.

Golden Gaze of the Highlands

There’s something about the way a Highland cow looks at you — calm, curious, and completely unimpressed by the person pointing a camera at it.

I photographed this beautiful Highlander in Applecross, on the west coast of Scotland, during the golden hour. The warm evening light filtering through the trees gave the whole scene that wonderful golden glow — and for a moment, everything simply came together: the light, the setting and, most importantly, that gaze.

Question to my Scottish followers. Is this a wildcat that lazily walked past my lens or just a common tabby with no pedigree?? I'm curious, let me know in the comments!! 👇

It must be just a regular tabby.. After doing some research after your suggestion I must conclude this isn't a wildcat.
I shot this photo a while back on Skye. The internet told me the wildcat doesn't live there.
Also it doesn't have the distinct features of the wildcat. Would have been great to have spotted one, but alas, this one is just a regular kitty!
