Yesterday, our colleague Dennie van Walsem and his family took part in Alpe d'HuZes, a unique Dutch fundraising event where participants climb or cycle the Alpe d’Huez to support cancer research and improve the quality of life for people living with cancer.

The photos capture the spirit of the day. Determination on the climb, encouragement along the route, and moments of reflection for those currently fighting and those remembered.

Dennie completed this journey for his daughter Yara, for a colleague facing cancer, and for everyone whose lives are affected by the disease.

This year’s edition raised just over €25 million, the highest amount in 13 years. A powerful reminder of what collective effort can achieve.

Welcoming our new Chief Financial Officer

We are pleased to welcome our new Chief Financial Officer to Schmidt Global Relocations.

Henri van Winkoop joins us with a clear preference for organisations where business remains tangible and close to its people. Schmidt’s practical, hands-on environment and entrepreneurial character were decisive in his choice.

In his role, he will take a broad view of the organisation, strengthening the connection between Finance, HR and IT. Rather than leading from the front, he sees himself as a facilitator. He values the knowledge within his team and places importance on understanding their perspectives, enabling them to perform at their best.

Integrity is central to his approach. He believes in authenticity, open dialogue and creating an environment where people are encouraged to speak with their own voice.

Looking ahead, Henri sees opportunity in further developing our systems to provide clearer insights and support well-founded decision-making across the business.

Beyond the office, he enjoys walking, running, biking, reading and yoga; bringing the same sense of balance and focus to his professional life.

Most battery problems are not operational. They are documentary.

For lithium battery shipments, you may need:

📄 MSDS or SDS
📄 UN38.3 test summary
📄 Dangerous Goods Declaration
📄 Correct HS Code
📄 Battery specification sheet

Regulations are guided by the United Nations Model Regulations for the transport of dangerous goods, but enforcement differs by country and carrier.

Common agent mistakes:
• Assuming household goods exemption applies
• Using outdated MSDS documents
• Missing UN number classification
• Not verifying Wh rating

For air shipments especially, carriers follow strict standards set by the International Air Transport Association.

If documentation is incomplete, cargo can be:
• Stripped from shipment
• Held at terminal
• Returned to origin
• Fined

Battery compliance is not a paperwork exercise. It is risk management.

Moving Abroad With an E-Bike? Read This First ⚡🚲

Planning to ship your e-bike in your international move?

Great choice. But there is one important detail: the battery.

Most e-bike batteries contain lithium. These are classified as hazardous for transport under international safety rules from organizations like the International Air Transport Association.

What does this mean for you?

✔ Some batteries cannot travel by air
✔ Some must be packed separately
✔ Some cannot be shipped at all
✔ Damaged batteries are never accepted

Before your move, we will ask:
• Is the battery removable?
• What is the power rating?
• Do you still have the original documentation?

This is not to complicate your move. It is to protect your shipment and avoid delays at customs or port.

If you are unsure about your e-bike battery, speak to us early. We will guide you through it safely.
