The Mts Ommoord is one of the barges operating within the fleet of our member Maaskade Bevrachters. Measuring 86 meters in length with a beam of 11.45 meters and a carrying capacity of 2,701 tonnes, this barge is designed for the efficient transport of vegetable oils across Europe's inland waterways.

Built in 2020, the Mts Ommoord features seven stainless steel, heated cargo tanks and a double-hull design. With a total capacity of 2,585 m³, this barge is well equipped for the safe and reliable transport of liquid bulk cargo.

The barge was built with a hull from Barkmet in the Czech Republic and completed at Maritime Services in Wemeldinge. Its two Volvo Penta engines, each producing 650 hp, provide the propulsion, supported by a 600 hp electric bow thruster.

This modern tanker is built for the efficient and reliable transport of vegetable oils throughout the European waterway network.

From a celebratory moment to a challenging maiden voyage to Ladenburg, Deutschland.

A while ago, the Mts Meent was officially christened. A special moment for all the parties involved. Some time has passed since then, and the Mts Meent has found her place on the water within the Stolt-Nielsen Inland Tanker Service fleet.

The maiden voyage proved to be a true test from the very start. Low water levels on the Rhine created challenging sailing conditions, giving the crew an immediate opportunity to demonstrate their skill, experience and teamwork. And they did the trick!

It is wonderful to see that the Mts Meent is now a full part of daily operations with an experienced crew on board that knows what to do.

For many, the summer holidays are the time to take a step back, but on the water, work continues as usual.

While the Netherlands enjoys days off, our barges remain underway with their liquid cargo. A process that continues day and night, regardless of the season.

From the air we’ve captured the Mts Cadanz and Mts Spangen sailing alongside each other. A big thank you to these captains and all our other captains and their crews. Transport does not stop. Because after all, logistics knows no summer shutdown.

Have you seen our barges sailing by? Share your photo by tagging us or using . Our team loves to see the view from the quay.

The Rhine is the most important waterway for our fleet. However, when water levels drop, transport on the Rhine becomes increasingly challenging. Even a difference of just a few centimeters can change how much cargo a barge can transport, which voyages are still possible and how operations need to be planned.

Marlon van Baarlen, Barge Operator at Maaskade Bevrachters, deals with this challenge every day. Together with the captains, he continuously assesses the conditions on the river and determines how the fleet can be deployed as efficiently as possible.

"During periods of extremely low water we have to look at the most critical locations on the Rhine. One of the Rhine's bottlenecks is Kaub. Not every barge can continue operating, and cargo capacity often has to be reduced significantly. Together with the captain, we continuously assess how much cargo can be transported safely and which operational choices best suit the prevailing conditions."

During low water periods, barges have to adjust their cargo intake. While a barge would normally sail at full capacity, it may only be able to carry a fraction of its usual load.

"Our fleet consists of many different types of barges, each with its own dimensions and characteristics. The length and beam of a barge influence how it is loaded and how it behaves in shallow water. Those are factors we take into account on every voyage during low water conditions."

Conditions on the river change as well. As water levels fall, parts of the riverbanks become exposed and the navigable channel becomes narrower. Barges reduce speed, adjust their routes and in some locations, have to wait for oncoming traffic before passing safely.

At the same time, conditions can change rapidly. Rainfall in Switzerland and southern Germany can temporarily raise water levels on the Rhine, creating opportunities to increase cargo capacity. However, water levels can fall again just as quickly, requiring continuous monitoring and planning throughout the summer.

Behind every voyage on the Rhine lies far more than simply transporting cargo from A to B. It requires experience, careful planning and close cooperation between the barge operator and the captain to keep transport safe and efficient.

The summer holidays have officially begun for all the regions in the Netherlands. For many, that means time to relax, discover new places, and take a break from the standard daily activities.

Meanwhile, work continues as usual on the European waterways. Every day, our crews, planners, and colleagues ashore ensure that the transport of liquid transport continues safely and reliably.

For those heading out onto the water this summer: let's ensure that, despite the increasing traffic on the water, everyone can do their work safely and most important, get home safely.

On behalf of the Maaskade Group, we wish everyone a pleasant, relaxing, and above all, beautiful summer.

We like to take you on board of the Mts Meent during her official sea trial. All the boxes were neatly ticked, and the Mts Meent has been approved to be put into service for our valued partner Stolt-Nielsen Inland Tanker Service.

Measuring 86 metres in length and 11.40 metres in width, the Mts Meent is the result of months of craftsmanship and collaboration. When the sea trial is successful, it is always worth the hard work.

Last week's hard work led up to the moment of the official christening. Yesterday, on July 2, we proudly celebrated the official christening of our newest chemical tanker, the Mts Meent.

Together with our guests and partners, we celebrated this special occasion in a traditional manner and wished this barge and its future crew safe voyages for the coming years.

The Mts Meent is a chemical c-tanker that will sail under the flag of our valued partner Stolt-Nielsen Inland Tanker Service, under which the Vertigo, Spartivento and Trivento also sail. Now that the barge is officially completed, all eyes are on the next milestone: the official sea trials on July 6.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this project and to all our guests who celebrated this wonderful moment with us.

At the Dolderman bv shipyard, the final work is being carried out to prepare the new chemical tanker Mts Meent for its sea trial on July 6. This C-tanker has a length of 86 meters and a width of 11.40 meters and will sail for our partner Stolt-Nielsen Inland Tanker Service.

After all underwater work was completed at Scheepswerf 't Ambacht, it was transported to Dolderman, where our partners Hoogendoorn 1961, Verhaar Omega bv, Anko-Piping, Werkina Werkendam, De Gerlien van Tiem Scheepsreparatie - Nieuwbouw, Stam Constructie, Catshuis interieur and of course the Dolderman team have worked hard over the past period to get everything ready.

We look forward to the official christening, which will take place tomorrow.

From the ARA area to the Rhine and its tributaries, you and your colleagues will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of liquid cargoes.

Within the Maaskade Group, you will join a close-knit team with an attractive sailing/leave system, good employment conditions, and plenty of room to further develop yourself within inland shipping.

Does life on board energize you, and are you ready for a new challenge? Then we would like to get to know you.
