LMG Marin has been selected by BC Ferries as design agent for its new Major class vessels.
BC Ferries is one of the world largest ferry operators. Its 36 ships provide lifeline services across British Columbia for 60 000 passengers and 23 000 cars per day on average.
The first stage of the project will soon start with the overall goal to achieve a zero-emission design by use of proven technology. This concept design will be later further finetuned into a basic design and a specification package that will be used for contracting the new ships at a yard.
The new Major Class ferries are expected to be operational by 2029.

The 3d model gives you an idea of what is the starting point of these design works. The final design will be available later in 2024.

This is with great pride that we can officially say we will do the basic design of the next generation of ferries for Islay island !
These two new 95m long ferries will be built by CEMRE Shipyard and the concept design was developed by naValue.

This is an opportunity for LMG Marin to work for on of Europe largest lifeline domestic ferry owner, with one of the largest network of routes!

We look forward to this starting project !

LMG Marin to design world’s largest 0-emission ferry for Scandlines.
This game changing ship will be built at CEMRE SHIPYARD / CEMRE TERSANESİ and is set for delivery in 2024.
There is no word to describe how enthusiastic we are to work with industry leading companies on this project. Scandlines team has been pro-actively working on pair with LMG Marin to achieve the best possible design for this next-generation 0-emissions ferry.
The ship design will allow 100% battery operation between Rødby, Denmark and Puttgarden in Germany thanks to the largest pack of batteries ever installed on a ship.
Scandlines will thus contribute to make one of the key logistic corridor to/from Scandinavia greener.

HYDRA is the Ship of the Year!

HYDRA, the world first liquid hydrogen powered ship, has just been awarded Ship of the Year award by Skipsrevyen
HYDRA is more than just a 0 emissions ferry. HYDRA brings innovation to a next level in the passenger ship transportation. The unique passenger lounge layout meets strict safety rules related to hydrogen use & storage as well as simplifies the moves onboard the ship by making the car deck and seating lounge a barrier free area where one can smoothly walk to and from.
Her sophisticated propulsion system allows batteries to run in pair with fuel-cell which are supplied by liquid hydrogen. As a redundancy feature the ship can also sail on diesel genset. The use of liquid hydrogen broaden the use of hydrogen for shipping purpose as it expands horizon with much larger range.
HYDRA 80 cbm liquid hydrogen tank will allow 24/7 sailing for up to 3 weeks in the fjord area between Hjelmeland, Nesvik and Skipavik.

LMG Marin is proud of this result and hopes HYDRA will pave the way for even more innovation into shipping!
