As part of the project, I’ve tested the Bridgestone T33 tires on my bike on this journey.
As you see from the images this set was swapped out with a new pair after 7420km
The trapping was becoming a problem and was dangerous to drive.
7400 km is relative short for a pair of tires, and many would state that this is caused by lack of airpressure, but they would only be partially right
The bike has been between 2,5 on cold tires on the front wheel and 2,7 on warm tires while the back wheel has been between 2,7 and 2,8 the entire trip, so they are within the recomended pressure.
So what caused this to occur?
First of all I’ve driven around 1000km on gravel roads, and 6,4 on tarmac
Bike weigth is prox to 420 kilo.
Many would say use Michelin Road 6 GT on this bike, and they are right, but if these T33 didn’t face the bad road conditions it is in northern Norway, they would prob be useful for many
More km if the trapping had not been as it is now.
On the next set I’ve increased the pressure to 2,7 and 2,8 on f/b-wheels on cold tires to see if that makes any signifiant change to the wear.
The tarmac up here eats tires the locals say.
And I believe them.
The general tarmac from Kirkenes to Tromsø has been like more or less the same with rougher surface and more tireworn tracks from the cars, making the cross section of it look like a rollercoaster, and all peaks has cut out tracks in the length of the roads from the ice scraping tools they use during wintertime to remove the ice from the roads, making the bike naturally follow these lines as they are rairoadtracks
So driving skifta a lot from laying on top of the peaks, which wears out the middle part of the tire, while the valleys wear a lot on the side of the tire when it tries to climb up to the next peak.
We will see what the change in preassure does in the next 7000km
