Shore power is now live at Portsmouth International Port ⚡

The port reached an important milestone in July when AIDAsol became the first cruise ship to connect to its new shore power system. Since then, every visiting ship capable of connecting has done so, with 20 of this season’s 32 cruise calls expected to use shore power.

The system supplies 100% renewable electricity and forms a key part of Portsmouth’s ambition to become the UK’s first zero-emissions port by 2050.

An important investment in the future of both the port and the city, and one that also highlights the opportunities and challenges that come with port electrification.

We look forward to a fruitful partnership the team in Nuuk, and to sharing much more about our newest member very soon.

From cruise guest to returning visitor 🚢

When Cruise Manager Line Murphy from our member port Stavanger met these two ladies from the UK, they had a great story to tell. They first discovered Stavanger while visiting on board Iona P&O Cruises last year, and enjoyed the destination so much that they decided to return, this time for a five-night stay.

A lovely real-life example of something we know is an important part of the wider value of cruise tourism: a cruise call can be the first introduction to a destination, and inspire guests to come back and stay longer.

Thank you to Stavanger for sharing this story with us!

A warm Clyde welcome for Valiant Lady on her inaugural call to Greenock!

Virgin Voyages’ Valiant Lady made her first visit to Greenock Cruise Port on Saturday, marked by a traditional plaque exchange and plenty of local involvement throughout the day.

And what a way to say goodbye; Inverclyde Pipe Band playing on the quayside, followed by a spectacular water cannon es**rt down the Clyde 🚢

Congratulations to our member Greenock Cruise Port and everyone involved in the welcome!

Inspiring the next generation of maritime professionals ⚓

Congratulations to our member Porto de Lisboa, together with MSC Cruises and CLIA - Cruise Lines International Association, on another successful edition of the "All Aboard!" programme.

By giving young people hands-on insight into life and careers at sea, from navigation and engineering to hospitality and environmental management, the initiative helps build awareness of the many opportunities within the maritime and cruise industries.
