Today we celebrate World Maritime Day ⚓

This year’s theme, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence,” highlights the importance of turning global maritime ambitions and regulations into meaningful action. At sea, in ports and across the wider maritime community.

For Cruise Europe, this resonates strongly with what we see across our network every day: ports, destinations, cruise lines and partners working together to improve safety, advance sustainability, embrace new technology and build a more resilient maritime future.

It is also a day to recognise the people behind our industry, from seafarers and port workers to everyone on shore who keeps maritime operations moving.

Looking back on a great Seatrade Cruise Med 2026 in Las Palmas! ⚓

Two busy days filled with great conversations, new connections and valuable meetings with colleagues and partners from across the cruise industry.

A big thank you to our co-exhibitors French Atlantic Ports, Cruise Faroe Islands, North Atlantic Agency, European Cruise Service and DMC Nordic for joining us at the Cruise Europe stand and contributing to a fantastic event.

A highlight was our joint reception with Cruise Baltic, Cruise Norway and Cruise Iceland, bringing our networks together 🤝

There was also plenty to celebrate, with several Cruise Europe members taking home prestigious Seatrade Cruise Awards! 🏆

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand, joined the reception or met with us during our time in Las Palmas. We return with plenty of good conversations to follow up on and look forward to seeing many of you again soon!

What a night at the Seatrade Cruise Awards!

We are delighted to see three Cruise Europe members taking home major awards at the ceremony during Seatrade Cruise Med in Las Palmas:

🏆 Skjolden Port, Norway – Port of the Year
🏆 Port of Dover, England – Sustainability Initiative of the Year

Opening new doors for expedition cruising in Northern Norway 🚢

Ports of North Cape recently hosted a dedicated fam trip for expedition, luxury and small-ship cruise representatives, showcasing remote communities and experiences beyond the traditional North Cape call.

From authentic Sámi encounters to small fishing communities and Arctic landscapes, the trip highlighted the potential for smaller-scale cruise tourism that creates meaningful connections while respecting the character and capacity of each destination. And judging by the feedback from participants, there is plenty of potential to explore.

Learning from each other, on site and in practice ⚓️

The Cruise Europe Port Exchange 2026 has just wrapped up in IJmuiden and Amsterdam, bringing members together for two days of knowledge sharing, port visits and first-hand insights into cruise operations.

The programme included a visit to Passenger Terminal Amsterdam and its shore power facilities, a ship visit onboard P&O Cruises’ Ventura, and site visits and discussions at Felison Terminals in IJmuiden.

A key part of the programme was the exchange between participating ports themselves, sharing experiences, challenges and solutions around everything from cruise operations and terminal infrastructure to EES, border requirements and the realities of managing cruise alongside other maritime activities.

“I would like to thank the Amsterdam and Ijmuiden for being very professional hosts. The objective of the port exchange program is to learn from each other with a focus on operational topics. All delegates contributed brilliantly to this. The CE Port Exchange & Educational Program is here to stay.” says Jens Chr. Skrede, Managing Director, Cruise Europe.

A major milestone for Klaipėdos uostas / Port of Klaipeda’s new cruise terminal ⚓️

The first two quays have now been completed as work progresses on an ambitious new waterfront development combining modern cruise infrastructure with public spaces for residents and visitors.

With capacity for multiple ships, shore power and improved passenger facilities, the new terminal is set to further strengthen Klaipeda as a cruise destination when completed in 2027.

Cruise Europe reaches further north ⚓

We are proud to welcome Sikuki Nuuk Harbour A/S as the first port in Greenland to join Cruise Europe - an exciting milestone for both our association and our growing Arctic region.

Cruise tourism is becoming increasingly important to Greenland, and Nuuk is entering a new chapter with improved international air connectivity, growing turnaround operations and major investment in its harbour infrastructure.

For Cruise Europe, welcoming Nuuk brings a new perspective, new expertise and an important Arctic destination into our network, strengthening the opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing across the region.

A conversation worth revisiting from CEC 2026 🌊

At the Baltic ports regional meeting during the Cruise Europe Conference in Reykjavik, members explored an increasingly important question: What role do ports play in shaping the future of cruise tourism?

The discussion made clear that this role now extends well beyond infrastructure. From coordinating stakeholders and managing visitor flows to community dialogue, destination development and investment in sustainable solutions, ports are increasingly important bridge-builders between cruise lines, cities, businesses and local communities.

Members also looked ahead to opportunities for the Baltic region, including new destinations, longer seasons and growing turnaround activity, alongside challenges around capacity, sustainability and destination readiness.
