If you don´t like full moon with Auroras, don't look at this post. :D

Probably the most popular question, we are getting from tour planners these days is moon related. Which is a good question, absolutely so. Strong moon can be overwhelming and with mild Northern Lights, it can hide the weaker Auroras. But when everything comes together, hard to beat the lit up landscapes and magical lights dancing in the sky. 😍

PS! All these photos are taken pretty much exactly during the last solar minimum. Which is also becoming a question, we are getting more and more these days. The question usually is, are the Northern Lights not visible during the solar minimum. May these pictures answer both of these questions at the same time. ;)

PS! We start another Aurora season in less than 2 weeks. 10th season for Greenlander, gee, how the time goes fast, when having fun. 🤠

Unbelievable, but Auroras are about to kick off again! Just around 3 more weeks to go and we are flying off to Northern Lights land again. So grateful, September is the first month for Auroras, as it's still warm(ish,) more daylight to enjoy the beauty of Northern Norway during the daytime and much less people as well. All the signs show very busy season to come again, so if you don´t like masses, like myself, see you in September. , , , , , 🇳🇴, , ,

Yesterday some part of the world was able to witness something very special, the full solar eclipse. I took my son and we travelled all the way to Spain for this. I must admit, I was pretty anxious before it, as there are quite many variables to it. Just like with Northern Lights, haha!

We first went to the coastal area, to the Ebro delta. I knew, many people would travel to see the solar ecliplse, but it was pure madness, how many people were on the beach with us. Countless rows of cars both ways. But around 1500-1600 some clouds started to roll towards us. I said the same thing, like many of you would say travelling to Tromsø during the winter time would say - I didn’t pay thousands of euros to look at the clouds. 🤣🤣🤣 So we packed up and headed inland. But time was getting so tight and when I realised, police had closed quite many local roads due to heavy traffic, my heart rate started to approach heavy training levels. Luckiky we still managed to get out somehow and got to the mountains and away from the clouds just in time. I have seen the solar eclipse in 2012 from Australia and it was a miracle to see. So it was this time, especially with my son. So grateful. 😇

I made a last post about all the different colours of Northern Lights (well, not all the variations, but covered lot of them,) and this post is about the good old green Auroras.

Most of the time the beloved Auroras are shown green - both for the camera and for the naked eye. Been highlighting it in many various posts, that green is almost always more strong through the camera lens compared to the naked eye, but this is not a rule. Some greens are incredibly vibrant witnessed by a bare eye as well. Are they going to appear green during your visit - only time will tell. The great magic of the Northern Lights has been and still is the fact, they cannot be predicted.

Many of you have been with us on a tour. Were the Auroras green or was there variety of colours? Were they faint to the naked eyes or was it very strong and green (or other colours) and well visible to the eyes? Would you travel all the way to Norway to see them again or was one time enough for you? Super curious about your story, so don´t be shy. :D

Last season was purely insane for the variety of different colours. Thank god, there wasn´t too much snow as well, so we could climb to pretty locations to witness the Auroras and most of the time bring our guests along. Why most of the times and not always, you might ask? Sometimes our peeps got so tired from the chase, but the Auroras kept going bonkers all night long, so we went "chasing" again after the last drop-off. :D No way, I would drive to Finland to maaybe capture something vague on a camera. But to have intense solar storm raging above Tromsø, it is very difficult to not head out again. Sleepless night, yeah, but the happiness, these massive multi-colour Auroras come, it's been always worth it. 🤗

I am not surprised, if you get inspired by these insane Auroras. But please remember as well, such spectres are not each night. When you come around, please keep the expectations low and the hopes high. Some mantras just never get old. 😆

I have decided to forbid myself a bit from making stupid jokes and focus a bit on useful information now for the next posts. 😃

Since bookings are really ramping up now for the 2026/2027 season, I notice certain questions, people most often ask about these tours. One of the most repeating question in - when is the best day to see the Auroras. There is only one true answer to this question - nobody knows. It might be heartbreaking for some, as how on earth I will plan my entire precious holiday around something that unpredictable. And yeah, I get it, it sucks. :D But at the same time what a great thing, we have something so pretty, yet unpredictable. I know, lot of men would say - we already have women for that, why do we need any more of that in the world?! 😅🥹

I specifically picked the following photos for this post from last September, when it looked like, it would make sense to stay home and not head out at all. All these photos I took, I remember the struggle to break free of clouds or to feel sorry for the guests for having such low activity. It would be great, if some of you recognise a photo from here, you were on a tour with us and tell your story about it. I just love the personal stories from you on this channel, makes my heart sing.

(Not so) hidden trick to succeed in the pursuit of Aurora happiness. Been always the same, will always be the same, as long as we can keep running these tours the way, we do. Stay to Tromsø at least 4-5 nights and book your tour/tours as early dates on your stay, as possible. This way if you get unlucky on the first try/tries, you still have some more back-up days to chase again. It's lot of fun, the chasing part. Trust me, you won´t get bored after the first one. Experienced chasers - am I right or am I right??

Little throwback from 10th of May 2024, Estonia

it was such an incredible evening, especially considering it was already May. I have seen the Auroras from Estonia before in May as well, even as late as 8th of May, but it was very faint and fare bit of imagination was needed. The evening of 10th of May, no imagination was needed. Never seen so effective Northern Lights in Estonia before, it really reminded me the ones in Norway. Maybe just a notch softer, as there were no intense dancing Auroras, which is somewhat common in Troms area. Auroras have tons of variations and there is no way to tell, that one form is better than another. The way it unrolled in front of my eyes, it was like a miracle and it was also very special to be there alone, in silence.

Hope many of you have your own experience with that evening and hopefully it burned some sweet memories into your memory forever. Surely many of you have told us stories about this evening, that it was first time, you were able to see the Auroras with the naked eye and was at least partially, if not fully, the reason to travel to Norway to see them again.

Feel like sharing some of the moments from last season with you. Was a pretty crazy season for various reasons, but there was sooo much fun as well. One of the most enjoyable factors about these tours is, since we only run them max 8 people, the organised chaos, it comes with. :D Let me break that apart a bit to make more sense.

Over time by doing something with an intension, you constantly learn different angles of it. One of the things, I have learnt over the years is, nobody wants to have overly polished and pre-programmed tours. With good structure, it's possible to add so much organised chaos, it's just nuts. :D I decided to use this photo as an example. You can see half-frozen river and some pretty Auroras in the sky. If you look close enough, you see some people scattered all over the place on the half-frozen river. Was it 100% safe? Of course it wasn´t. 🤣 Was it 100% fun to do something completely out of the ordinary- it absolutely was. By looking at this picture myself, it reminds me something, I wasn´t thinking about earlier this post. You see a person on the left, closest to the edge of the ice. Shortly after taking this photo, I walked to him and checked, is he doing fine, as he didn´t move, but was just standing there, kind of motionless. He didn´t even turn around to answer me, but his answer absolutely reached certain areas within me. He said, he's having an psychedelic experience and if he would change anything at all, he'd wish, he was there alone. I completely understood him and felt connected with his state. I even could've granted his wish to be there alone, but we were more than 200km from Tromsø in the middle of freaking Finnish Lapland, so I decided to not do it in the end. 😃

And there were so many similar meaningful moments like these last year!! Sometimes I feel, of course it's nice to have Auroras on these tours as well, but there is a higher reason for all of this. And it's a great feeling, this one. :)

Next season's calendar is opened and if you want to shake your consciousness a bit as well, you are more than welcome to come and be part of that organised chaos with us. ;)

7th of April

the very last of the last tours is done now and what a way to go out!

If you look at the photos, there is always some blue sky there, even though the Auroras are strong and still nice and green. In case the Auroras were dim, the blue sky would affect the visibility in a grand way. Fortunately the skies were clear and the Auroras were strong that night.

Been thinking for days, what to put into the last post and I feel, I have said most of the things already during the season, if there was something important to say. Wasn´t an easy season at all, but thanks to our amazing team (you're all superstars, couldn´t do it without you!,) we somehow managed to find Auroras almost each night. So much work and dedication went into the operation and really glad, it shows on the results as well. 😎

Every end is a start of a new beginning. This last tour led by amazing Petr (let's try to collectively pressure him to come back next season :D) was just as much an end, than it is a new beginning. We'll have a deserved break now and then operating again from September. Booking page is already opened and looking forward to meet you again. :)
