Here, the world rises from warm subtropical valleys to the icy crown of Mount Makalu (8,485 m), the fifth-highest peak on Earth. Between its cliffs and glaciers, life unfolds in extraordinary ways—rare red pandas climb through rhododendron forests, snow leopards prowl the ridgelines, and thousands of plant species paint the valleys in changing colors.
