Happy Naga Panchami to everyone!
Today, we celebrate and honor snakes and other poisonous creatures for their important role in our environment. Naga Panchami is a special day in Nepal and other parts of South Asia where we recognize the significance of snakes in maintaining the balance of nature.
According to Hindu mythology, during the churning of the ocean, a deadly poison emerged, and Lord Shiva saved the world by swallowing it. The snake Basuki played a key role in this event, and as a result, Lord Shiva blessed Basuki and made him an ornament around his neck.
On this day, people worship eight kinds of Nagas, including Ananta, Basuki, Takshak, Karkotak, Padma, Mahapadma, Shankhpal, and Kuli. These Nagas are believed to protect us, and by honoring them, we show our respect.
This festival reminds us of the importance of coexisting with nature and protecting these creatures who are essential to our world. Letโs take this opportunity to reflect on the harmony between humans and nature and commit to safeguarding these vital species.
Happy Naga Panchami!
