As the final digger is lifted from the hold, another log vessel wraps up — its cargo neatly stacked for AVA and Forest Management Limited. There’s a certain beauty in the order and symmetry of a well-finished hold — a mark of experience and attention to detail.

At 3 Islands, we’re always looking for skilled operators who take pride in their craft and want to be part of a team that keeps New Zealand’s exports moving.

A unique sight in the hold of the Laura Bassi — helicopters bound for Antarctica, carefully stowed and secured by the team at 3 Islands.

Supporting the Laura Bassi, an Antarctic research vessel, is a proud moment for our crew — connecting New Zealand’s port operations with vital scientific work at the bottom of the world.

Precision, power, and a touch of magic. At 3 Islands, we’re proud to work alongside partners Kiwirail, Swire Shipping, and Smiths Cranes to safely lift and deliver complex cargo — like this train — from the hold of a heavy lift vessel in Lyttelton. With the mist of Witches Brew rolling down the hills, it’s a reminder of the skill, planning, and teamwork that keeps New Zealand moving. Together, we make the extraordinary routine.

When your ship is big enough to carry a boat, you need a team you can rely on.

This tug may be small compared to the vessel it arrived on, but moving heavy cargo like this takes skill, precision, and trust. As a premium stevedoring company, 3 Islands is proud to be trusted with projects of every scale – from bulk loads to specialised lifts.

Big ships, bigger responsibility. That’s why customers choose 3 Islands to get the job done safely and efficiently.

Not every day do you welcome an Antarctic legend ashore. After decades serving at McMurdo Station, “Ivan the Terrabus” has left the ice and arrived in New Zealand.

Our team at 3 Islands had the privilege of safely discharging Ivan in wild winds and rain – a fitting farewell for a machine built to endure the world’s harshest conditions.

Now resting in Christchurch while its future is decided, Ivan carries the stories of countless researchers and explorers who travelled in its seats. We’re proud to have played a small part in its remarkable journey.

Dawn breaks differently when you work on the waterfront.
From the crane operator’s cab, the first light of day shines over a full deck of logs, reminding us why we do what we do.

At 3 Islands, stevedoring is more than a job – it’s precision, teamwork, and the skill of people who keep New Zealand’s exports moving safely and efficiently.

We’re proud to share moments like this with you, showing the scale of the work and the people behind it. Follow along to see more of the unseen side of port operations, where every sunrise marks the start of another successful day on the water.

When you’ve got a digger swinging high over a full hold of logs, you realise just how much skill goes into the mahi at the port. This isn’t a job for the faint-hearted — it’s precision, teamwork, and trust, all rolled into one.

3 Islands has some of the most talented operators you’ll ever meet. From the crew on the ground to the ones guiding heavy lifts like this, they’re absolute pros at making the tough look effortless. Every move is planned, every detail is thought through, and it shows in how safely and smoothly the work gets done.

Proud to shine a light on the people who keep things moving — the unsung heroes turning challenges into everyday wins.

If it’s moving in New Zealand, chances are it started here.

From the first lift to the final lash, 3 Islands crews are on the front line of port services — stevedoring, cargo handling, and keeping freight flowing at Northport and beyond.
It’s skill, grit, and precision that keeps our waterfront working.

Keeping NZ moving — even after dark.

On scaffold towers under a night sky, two of our stevedores wait for the next truckload of wheat to be blown down — part of our strict biosecurity process to protect Aotearoa’s borders.

This week saw another successful discharge of quarantine product wheat, working alongside our valued client Tegel, the Agent Southern Seas Bulk, and our reliable partners at TWT Transport.

It’s precise, quiet, critical work. At 3 Islands, we take pride in being a New Zealand owned stevedoring company doing the hard mahi that keeps supply chains strong and standards high.

Follow our page to see more of the unseen work behind the scenes — and meet the people who keep it all moving.
