Dementia Action Week 2026 will be taking place from Mon 18th May until Sun 24th May! πŸ—£οΈπŸ§ πŸ’›

This annual campaign is ran by the charity Alzheimer’s Society, it is designed to raise awareness, improve education, and reduce stigma about dementia.

Did you know that that ALL of our drivers are Dementia Friends? πŸ’™πŸš™πŸ’™
We are proud to say we are a safe, accepting and supportive place for those with Dementia πŸ₯°

We believe that becoming a Dementia Friend forms an integral part of our driver training - you can be assured that Driving Miss Daisy have formed a strong commitment to this very important initiative that Alzheimers New Zealand have created. What does this mean for our client's with Dementia? This means our Daisies are equipt with the knowledge of what it means to live with Dementia and ways they can support client's further. It also means we are apart of a growing community of Kiwis helping to make Aotearoa New Zealand a kinder, more supportive, inclusive and understanding place for people living with dementia.

Today was Receptionists Day, a day where we can say thanks to all the receptionists out there doing an amazing job.

Myself and one of our drivers spent the day visiting (almost all) of the various clinics and receptionists in our area to say thanks for all they do.

Liz runs a yearly retreat for parents of children with complex cognitive, behavioural, neurological and physical disabilities. These parents are doing the hard yards and they deserve an adequate break. The retreats are small so places are limited but if you know someone who is desperate for a period of planned respite care for themselves, have a look at The Reflection Zone and see what its all about.

Dave and our eldest daughter are walking 50km this May for breast cancer. 50km sounds like a lot but it goes pretty quickly.
On the weekend they walked the full loop of the Orewa Estuary Path (about 8.5km).

If you'd like to keep up with their progress, or help support a charity that does amazing things check out the link https://walk50kthismay.nz/dave-tyrrell
