🐾 Bringing your dog to Kawau Island? Here's what you need to know.

Dogs are welcome aboard Kawau Cruises vessels, but for the safety and comfort of all passengers, please keep them under control and on a leash while travelling.

Once on the island, remember that dogs are prohibited on DOC reserves and protected conservation areas. These areas are home to native wildlife and may contain 1080 and other pest-control toxins that can be extremely dangerous to dogs.

Dogs are welcome on private property with the landowner's permission, so please be respectful of where you explore.

A little planning helps keep Kawau's wildlife protected and ensures everyone, two-legged and four-legged, has a safe visit.

The kiwi aren’t great at dodging dogs… so let’s keep them safe 💚

Kawau Island ROCKS!!! 🪨⭐️

No seriously… one of Kawau’s best low tide activities is going for a walk around the rocks. Whether you’re rock hopping with the kids, searching for starfish and crabs in the rock pools, or just needing five minutes of peace away from everyone asking “what’s for lunch?” the rocks are hard to beat.

The sound of the sea crashing against the rocks is better than any ASMR playlist on Spotify and will have you feeling grounded again in no time.

It’s night-time walks beneath star filled skies ✨
It’s losing track of time until the sun begins to set ☀️
It’s swimming everyday because vitamin sea keeps the doctor away 🏊‍♂️

It’s spotting starfish in rock pools a low tide, wandering through the bush and listening to the trees, and slowing down long enough to notice the little things.

Our Hauraki Gulf/Tīkapa Moana is home to some incredibly special marine life, from scallops and lobsters to delicate seafloor habitats that many of us never even see beneath the surface 🌊

As locals, boaties, fishers, divers and visitors to Kawau and the Gulf, it’s so important we understand and respect our marine reserve and protected areas to help restore and protect the health and mauri of these waters for future generations.

DOC and partnering agencies are currently surveying habitats both inside and outside the new marine protected areas to monitor the health of the Gulf and track how these ecosystems are changing over time.

A good reminder that every small action counts when it comes to caring for Tīkapa Moana 💙

Join us this Anzac Day as we come together to remember and honour those who served.

A commemorative service will be held at Kawau Boating Club, starting at midday. Hospitality at the club will be running from 1pm onwards.

We welcome everyone to attend and pay their respects in this special setting. Anyone is welcome to lay a wreath and donations from the Poppy Appeal will go to the Warkworth RSA.

Water taxis will be running, book ahead to secure your spot. You can reach our office on 0800111616.
