Mansion house: then & now

She’s aged pretty well…

Originally built in the 1840s as the mine superintendents residence, Mansion house became the island home of Sir George Grey after he purchased Kawau in 1862. He transformed the property into an extensive estate, introducing many exotic plants and animals some of which can still be seen around Kawau today. 🦚

And the best part? You can still wander through the house, gardens and surrounding historic reserve and imagine what it was like once upon a time.
