✈️ SINGAPORE SUMMER WITH A380 BACK ON THE ROSTER

Singapore Airlines is bringing the Airbus A380 back to Auckland for the full summer season, operating daily between Auckland and Singapore.

That means more seats, more choice, and yes, those comfortable suites on the upper deck for travellers wanting to start their trip in serious style.

It’s part of a busy summer ahead on the Auckland–Singapore route, with Air New Zealand also adding four more flights per week over the same period.

Together, the extra services mean even more ways for travellers to connect between Auckland, Singapore and beyond this summer.

💻 CAME FOR THE LAPTOP, STAYED FOR THE LONG-HAUL ✈️

In 2015, Jolie Lam walked into the Novotel Auckland Airport for a job interview with one goal in mind — get the job and keep it long enough to buy a uni laptop. Everything after that was a bonus.

She got the job. She got the laptop. She's still here.

What started as semester breaks and summer shifts slowly became something else. A full-time role. A move into customer service, where she found herself escorting Gordon Ramsay and Lorde through arrivals like it was any other Tuesday.

"This shy girl somehow ended up on the radio and social media, representing Auckland Airport. It really helped build my confidence."

That confidence opened doors. She moved into landside operations, took on more responsibility, and eventually stepped into leadership — managing live operations and supporting the Emergency Operations Centre on some of the airport's biggest days.

Ten years, several roles, and one very memorable flood later — Jolie now helps run day-of operations across the airport.

"What keeps me here is the people and the fact that there's always something new to learn and somewhere new to grow. I came for a laptop and ended up with a career I'm really, really proud of."
When we asked what surprised her most, she didn't hesitate.

"I didn't expect to still be here — or to love it this much."

We did though, Jolie.

🌿 FUTURE-PROOFING STORMWATER RESILIENCE AT AKL🌿

After a wet start to 2026, Auckland Airport’s new coupled wetland biofilter is already showing what nature-led infrastructure can do.

Our system uses 20,000 native plants to slow, filter and clean stormwater before it reaches the Manukau Harbour. Six months after project completion, those plants are thriving.

Our biofilter has been built for the future, with capacity to treat stormwater from more than 100 hectares of land within an 18,000 square metre footprint.

📣 50 YEARS OF SINGAPORE AIRLINES AT AKL 📣

Fifty years ago today, a Singapore Airlines Boeing 707 touched down at Auckland Airport for the very first time.

Since that first flight on 2 May 1976, Singapore Airlines has carried more than eight million travellers on over 30,000 flights between New Zealand and Singapore — connecting Kiwis to Asia, Europe and beyond.

What started as a twice-weekly service has grown into three flights per day — a long-standing partnership we're proud to be a part of.

Congratulations to the team at Singapore Airlines for 50 years of connecting New Zealand to the world. Here's to the next chapter.

🔎 IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS 🔍

Nicky Thorburn’s work is everywhere in the terminal, even when most travellers don’t realise it.

As Customer Service Manager for Terminal Presentation, he helps make sure the spaces people move through every day feel clean, clear and easy to navigate. For Nicky, creating a seamless customer experience is at the core of every decision he makes.

“People will forget what you say and do, but they won’t forget how you made them feel.”

That means working with cleaning contractors, trolley service providers and signage teams, planning around terminal works, and using customer feedback to keep improving the experience.

“Feedback is everything in my role. We want to hear from our passengers and wider stakeholders about what they’re enjoying and what they feel might not be hitting the mark,” Nicky says.

“But listening is only the first part. Actioning customer feedback by taking it to our internal teams and the large network of service providers we work with is how we can continue to elevate that customer experience in the terminal.”

It also means bringing together teams from across the airport, from airlines and retailers to border agencies, around one shared goal: making the journey better for our customers.

Because better journeys start in the details.

Throwback to some of our fave arrivals stories...

When we met Tom, he was fresh off the plane from the UK and buzzing to reunite with his mate Rachael, who fell head over heels for New Zealand and never looked back.

It'd been over a year since they'd seen each other and they promptly checked in for some serious bestie time and catch ups with Rachel's dog, Captain.

On Anzac Day, we pause to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and those who continue to serve.

At sunrise this morning, we marked the day across our terminals with the Last Post, the Ode of Remembrance and a minute’s silence.

We acknowledge all who have served New Zealand — in war, in peacekeeping, and in times of need.

Lest we forget 🌺

📣 TRAVELLING OVER APRIL SCHOOL HOLIDAYS? 📣

We're gearing up for a busy school holidays season at AKL. Here's our top tips to make sure your travel experience runs smoothly.

🌎 International travellers – Know your zone

Construction is underway in the international check-in hall as part of our major terminal upgrade. To help keep check-in moving, some flights are now using our temporary check-in area, Zone T. Look up your flight’s check-in zone on our website up to 24 hours before departure, or on the digital screens when you arrive.

🎒Pack smart, play your part

Lithium batteries and power banks must go into carry-on luggage. Battery powered hair straighteners and curlers should be left at home. If unsure, check the Aviation Security NZ website 🔗 link in comments

👀 Look out for airport staff and signage
Our teams are available to help guide you through the terminal and we've got extra signage to ensure you know where you need to be.
