Meet Suji, our Systems Administrator

My name is Suji Varghese Thekkemuriyil, and I’m proud to be part of the Cargo Plus family as a System Administrator.

My primary role is working to create and maintain job information in our system to ensure everything is accurate and runs smoothly. I also support the team and enjoy solving problems that help make our day-to-day operations more efficient.

My journey to New Zealand began in September 2024. Like many people starting a new life in a new country, I faced the excitement and uncertainty of beginning again.

My first job was at Auckland Airport, where I gained valuable experience and learned the importance of teamwork and customer service. On 1 September 2025, I joined Cargo Plus, a decision that has truly been one of the best I have ever made.

Coming into the transport and logistics industry, I had no previous experience. I was nervous at first, but from my very first day, I was welcomed by an incredible team and supportive management who believed in me. They patiently taught me everything I needed to know, encouraged me to ask questions, and gave me the confidence to grow in my role. The positive culture, willingness to help one another, and genuine care shown by everyone here have made Cargo Plus feel like much more than just a workplace, it feels like a second family. I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have been given and for the trust the company has placed in me.

Outside of work, I am a proud father of three beautiful daughters, and they are my greatest inspiration. I love spending quality time with them, taking them to their sports activities and dance classes, and watching them grow into confident young girls.

Those moments remind me every day why I work hard and strive to be my best. When I have some time to myself, I enjoy reading books and listening to music, which helps me relax and recharge.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the Cargo Plus team. Every day brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute, and I look forward to continuing this journey with such an amazing group of people.

Keeping New Zealand Moving, one Coffee at a time

As winter settles across New Zealand, we've parked our "Spot the Truck & Win" competition and brewed up something a little different, giving us another way to support local and thank the customers who keep us moving every day.

We're excited to launch our new initiative - Keeping New Zealand Moving, One Coffee at a Time.

Each month, we'll randomly select one lucky customer and shout their team a morning coffee, delivered courtesy of our local coffee legend, Barry.

Why the change?

Well, there are a couple of reasons:

Firstly, we wanted a simple way to say thank you to our customers. Every day, you trust Cargo Plus with your freight, and we genuinely appreciate the partnerships we've built together.

Secondly, we love the idea of supporting local. Barry's coffee van is a familiar sight in our community, and like many small businesses, winter mornings can be a little quieter, especially on Mondays. By buying local, we're helping support someone who works hard to keep our community moving too.

It's a small gesture, but one that reflects who we are and the values we strive to live every day:
• supporting our local community
• backing small businesses
• showing appreciation to our customers
• creating a few smiles along the way

So, don't be surprised if Barry turns up at your workplace one morning with hot coffees and a message from the Cargo Plus team. It could be your shout next!

After all, keeping New Zealand moving isn't just about freight. Sometimes it's about helping people get through a cold winter morning with a great coffee and a reminder that they're appreciated.

New Muscle for the Highbrook Yard

There's a new powerhouse in the Highbrook yard, with the arrival of our brand-new SANY lifter.

As our business continues to grow, so does the need for the right equipment to keep freight moving safely and efficiently. The SANY is a significant investment in our operations, providing greater lifting capability, improved productivity, and more flexibility when handling containers and heavy freight.

For our yard team, it means faster turnaround times, safer handling, and the ability to tackle bigger jobs with confidence. For our customers, it helps ensure we continue delivering the reliable service and responsiveness they're used to from Cargo Plus.

A big thank you to everyone involved in bringing the new machine into operation. We can't wait to see it put through its paces as it becomes an important part of our Highbrook operation.

Puzzling Katherine

I’ve been working in accounts for 11 years, and one of the things I enjoy most about my role is that no two days are ever quite the same – it keeps me busy and makes every day feel productive and rewarding.

Outside of work, I’m a proud mum of two lovely daughters who seem to have an endless supply of “why” questions, which keeps life interesting!

When I’m not working, I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles. I love the sense of calm and focus they bring, and I find them a great way to unwind and recharge. As for exercise, my favourite sport is window shopping – plenty of walking and much more enjoyable than the gym!

I’m looking forward to continuing to work with everyone and getting to know more people across the business.

This month’s Spot the Truck & Win competition gave us plenty of great entries, but one photo stood out for all the right reasons. Congratulations to Brandon from Fliway for submitting our winning shot!

What made Brandon’s photo a standout wasn’t just the truck—it was the feeling behind it. As mentioned in our first article it reflected one of Cargo Plus’s core values: family.

The value of family is especially important to us. It speaks to the way we look after one another, the respect we have for our people, and the strong, genuine relationships we build—both inside the business and with all our partners.

Brandon’s photo was a great reminder that what we do is about more than trucks and freight—it’s about people, connection, and being part of something bigger.

Well done again, Brandon—and thanks to everyone who took part this month! This marks the final round of our Spot the Truck and win competition. We’ve loved receiving all your photo’s – and judging by what we’ve seen, our trucks really do get around! Don't worry though, we're already cooking up something new to treat our customers. So, watch this space to see what's brewing at Cargo Plus HQ—it's never dull around here!

More than Words - Our Core Values

At Cargo Plus, we’ve chosen to keep things simple—just three core values that truly represent who we are and how we operate every day: Family, Excellence, and Communication.

These values aren’t just words—they’re our compass. By keeping it to three, we ensure they’re easy to remember, easy to live, and genuinely reflected in how we show up both professionally and personally.

When you look at our core values, we often think of them as a journey. Each one plays a part in keeping us moving in the right direction—working together, solving problems, and staying connected along the way.

• Family reminds us that people are at the heart of everything we do.
• Excellence drives us to find better solutions and keep improving.
• Communication keeps everything running smoothly, with clear lines and strong relationships.

Even “Trucky” in our core values artwork has a special meaning. He represents where we’ve come from and the special people along the way who have shaped our journey—reinforcing that at the centre of it all is family, connection, and shared purpose.

At the end of the day, our values aren’t something we switch on and off—they’re reflected in how we show up, interact, and make decisions every day. And just like any good journey, it’s the people you travel with that make it worthwhile.

Mānawatia a Matariki

Today we celebrate Matariki – a time to reflect on the year that has passed, appreciate the people around us, and look forward to the opportunities ahead.

Much like Dave Dobbyn’s song ‘Welcome Home’, Matariki reminds us of the importance of connection, belonging, and coming together. It’s a time to honour those who have come before us, celebrate the people beside us, and welcome the opportunities that lie ahead.

From all of us at Cargo Plus, we wish our customers, partners, and team a happy Matariki. May this special time bring connection, gratitude, and renewed hope for the year ahead.

Meet Chontelle our Freight Despatcher

I have been a freight despatcher for Cargo Plus for four years and love being part of the Cargo Plus family. In my previous life I have been a nanny, a personal assistant and a small business owner operator, so joining Cargo Plus was a big change for me.

When I came to Cargo Plus my dispatching experience was very limited but over the years, I have loved learning from those around me and gaining knowledge and experience. I enjoy the challenge each day and no two days are ever the same. I love helping people so doing my best to meet each customer’s needs gives me a great sense of purpose.

When I’m not working, I’m organising my busy household and running around after my kids. I have four kids and enjoy the challenge of managing everything that comes with that. For ‘me’ time, I enjoy sitting and watching a good police or medical drama to help me unwind.

Cargo Plus goes Pink for a good cause

Last week, the Cargo Plus team came together for a Pink Ribbon Morning Tea, raising both awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support.

The morning was a great opportunity to pause and have some important conversations. We talked about the value of regular self-checks and the importance of getting anything unusual looked at early—because when it comes to breast cancer, early detection can make all the difference.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Cargo Plus event without a bit of fun along the way. An incredible gift hamper was created and raffled off on the day—congratulations to Mani, who was the lucky winner!

A big thank you goes to our Events Team, who put on an unforgettable pink-themed feast. There was more KFC than we’ve ever seen in one place—and even more impressively, every last bit was eaten!

Cargo Plus also got right behind the cause, providing raffle tickets for all team members and matching donations made directly to Breast Cancer New Zealand. Thanks to everyone’s generosity and support, the team collectively raised over $700.

A fantastic result and a great reminder of what we can achieve when we come together for a cause that truly matters. 💕
