Spot the Truck & Win!

This month’s winning ‘Spot the Truck & Win’ photo creates a great visual link to the stories featured throughout the newsletter, capturing both our fleet in action (or in this case parked 😊) and the sustainability journey we’re sharing.

Article One highlighted how Cargo Plus supports the Paper4Trees programme, helping promote sustainability and environmental education for our Tamariki. Article Two introduced Luke (aka “Spooky”), the proud driver of the electric van pictured here, who’s embracing the future of transport one Auckland motorway at a time.

From supporting environmental education, to investing in sustainable transport, to the people behind the wheel — this month’s newsletter shows how it all connects.

Congratulations to Brittany Wood from KLN our competition winner, and thanks to everyone who keeps an eye out for our fleet on the roads!

I’ve been part of the Cargo Plus family since I was 18, and I’m proud to say that I’m the youngest driver in the fleet. It’s something I get a real kick out of. I’ve worked hard to master the local routes, and I love being trusted with one of our electric vans.

It’s been cool to be part of the future of logistics and show that sustainable transport still performs well. And honestly, the electric van drives amazingly.

What started off as ‘just a job’ has quickly turned into a career that I genuinely enjoy. I’ve found my rhythm on the road and start each day focused, motivated, and ready to get the job done — even when Auckland’s traffic is really testing my patience. I’m excited to see where this journey in logistics takes me next.

Once the keys are handed back at the end of the day, I switch gears a bit. You’ll usually find me gaming, spending time with my partner, or cheering on the Warriors (up the Wahs!). That balance between a solid day’s work and good downtime is important to me.

Most of all, I really enjoy the people I work with. Whether it’s the office team or the other drivers, it’s always a joy and I feel lucky to be part of such a good crew.

Supporting Paper4Trees – Making a Difference One Tree at a Time 🌱🌳

At Cargo Plus, we’re proud to support Paper4Trees, an inspiring not for profit programme helping schools and preschools across New Zealand reduce waste and restore our natural environment.

Paper4Trees encourages children to recycle paper and cardboard, keeping it out of landfill and turning those positive actions into something tangible — free native plants and classroom recycling bins for schools. The programme not only supports environmental restoration but also helps build lifelong sustainability habits through hands-on learning.

Through the support of sponsors, Paper4Trees has already helped schools create native gardens, green spaces, and even micro forests, delivering real benefits for local ecosystems, biodiversity, and student engagement.

Sustainability is a key focus for Cargo Plus, from investing in electric vehicles to supporting initiatives that create long-term environmental impact. Sponsoring Paper4Trees allows us to play a small but meaningful part in helping young people learn about recycling, restoration, and caring for the environment they’ll inherit.

We love seeing the real-world impact of the programme and the pride schools take in their plantings. It’s a great reminder that small actions — when backed by the right support — can grow into something much bigger.

At dawn we stand in silence, as the rising light appears,
Remembering the courage, the sacrifice, the years.
From distant shores they answered, with duty in their hearts,
Ordinary people called to play extraordinary parts.

Through dust and fire and hardship, through fear they carried on,
So we could know a freedom that still lives at each new dawn.
Their stories live within us, in every step we take,
A legacy of bravery no time can ever break.

Today we pause with gratitude, for those who served and gave,
For every soul remembered, for every life so brave.
We stand in quiet unity, in honour and respect —
Their sacrifice remembered… Lest We Forget.

Meet Mike from Fulfilment Plus

Hi everyone, I’m Mike, and I lead Fulfilment Plus — Cargo Plus’s 3PL sister company.

Originally from Papakura, I now call sunny Hawke’s Bay home, where I live with my wife and two kids. I’ve spent the past 15 years across the 3PL world, working in everything from warehouse and operations management through to network design, transport, consulting, sales, and general management. Along the way, I’ve been lucky to experience a wide mix of environments — from large-scale ambient operations to ecommerce, chilled and frozen, and multinational businesses.

Outside of work, football has always been a big part of my life. Injuries may have put an end to playing, but I still follow my beloved West Ham (who like to make me suffer!) and I try to get along to an Auckland FC match when I can. The Bay is an awesome place to live and we try and get out and see as much of it as we can, whether its a trip to the beach, one of the many vineyards, or getting out and exploring Te Mata Peak or the many trails which are all around us.

I partnered with Carl and Rob to launch Fulfilment Plus late last year, we could see a gap in the 3PL market for Small and Medium sized businesses looking for premium service, full visibility and a cost-effective approach. Over the last 6 months I've loved the challenge of building something from the ground up to deliver this vision for our customers. As we grow, I’m involved across all aspects of the business — but two things that I have enjoyed most is shaping systems and culture that supports both our customers and our team; and getting back on the warehouse floor helping to pick orders or receive stock in.

If you’re keen to chat about how we can support your 3PL needs, feel free to reach out.

Complex Cargo. Clever Solutions:

Cargo Plus is trusted to handle some of the most diverse and unusual project freight our customers face. No two projects are ever the same — from oversized, specialised, and time critical cargo to one off movements that don’t fit standard logistics models. Our role often goes beyond transport, acting as problem solvers for complex logistics challenges that require innovation, flexibility, and hands on thinking. The projects shown highlight our ability to adapt, find solutions, and work closely with customers to get even the most challenging jobs delivered safely and successfully. To borrow a phrase from Shaun Wallace (aka The Dark Destroyer from The Chase) – “Just another day in the (Cargo Plus) office” 😉.

Meet our juggling act Keua

Heya! I’m Keua. I’m the oldest of six, so organised chaos has basically been my life training from day one. Life in a big household taught me how to juggle a lot at once, think on my feet, and keep things moving no matter what’s happening around me.

Before logistics became my world, I was studying Visual Arts and exploring my creative side. I’ve always been drawn to bold ideas and creating work that challenges perspectives. After finishing my degree, I decided to take what I thought would be a temporary break to figure out my next move. That “short break” turned into a role in transport and container cartage — and 10 years later, I’ve never looked back. What started as a steppingstone became a career in an industry that keeps me on my toes every day.

These days I work as an Export Scheduler, coordinating export movements and working closely with our dispatch team, the ports, and customers to keep everything moving as it should. A lot happens behind the scenes to make sure shipments are booked, timed, and delivered smoothly. It can be fast, unpredictable, and a little chaotic at times — but that’s part of what keeps it interesting.

When I’m not sending emails at silly times of the night, you’ll find me enjoying a quiet evening in, catching a movie at the cinema, spending time with family, or dreaming about the day I finally own a 1960s Shelby Mustang.

Secure Export Scheme (SES)

Are you, or any of your customers, an exporter?

As a member of New Zealand’s Customs’ Secure Export Scheme (SES), Cargo Plus helps ensure your export processes are seamless and compliant with international supply-chain security standards, including those set by organisations such as the WCO and AEO.

What is the Secure Export Scheme (SES)?

The Secure Export Scheme is a New Zealand Customs program introduced in 2004 to support NZ exporters by enabling smoother customs clearance overseas.

The program strengthens biosecurity, promotes compliance with international standards, and supports efficient, reliable trade with global markets.

With New Zealand’s strong export presence in sectors such as seafood, agriculture, and technology, SES plays a vital role in maintaining trusted and secure supply chains.

How Cargo Plus can support you?

Every export container handled by Cargo Plus is automatically processed through our SES program. This provides overseas authorities with assurance that your supply chain is secure before the container reaches their border.

Our strong SES compliance has helped customers resolve border and container security issues on multiple occasions and has also driven continuous improvements in our own export container handling processes.

If you’d like to discuss how Cargo Plus can support your export business, please contact Carl at [email protected] or our SES Program Owner, Mani at [email protected].
