Congratulations to Tuurama Trust, recipients of our ‘Think Inside the Box’ 20ft shipping container giveaway.

The Tuurama Trust is involved in organising community cultural events such as Matariki celebrations, and the Rangatahi Zone. The container will provide secure storage for equipment throughout the year and help bring back the much-loved “smash it room” activity, supporting rangatahi across Murihiku with safe, supervised and memorable experiences.

This giveaway was made possible thanks to MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co NZ, who supplied the container, and Osborn Engineering Bluff, who delivered it - a great example of local organisations working together to support the community.

Reminder to ALL Recreational and Commercial Vessel Operators.

Access within the Port operational area is restricted and controlled for safety and security reasons. Vessels must NOT enter restricted operational areas, including container terminal berths, without prior authorisation from South Port.

Unauthorised access creates significant safety risks due to commercial shipping movements, cargo handling operations, mobile plant, and other port activities.

When operating in and around the Port:
• Maintain a minimum safe distance of 50 meters from restricted and designated operational berths, commercial vessels and cargo operations.
• Comply with all navigation and exclusion zone requirements.
• Follow directions issued by South Port personnel, pilots, and the Harbourmaster.
• Ensure all crew are aware of South Port safety and induction requirements before entering the harbour area.

Cooperation of all harbour users helps maintain a safe working environment for Port staff, contractors, commercial operators, and recreational water users.

Update 5 August 2026: Power to the Front No. 1 Lead Light has been restored.

Please note that the NO1 Front Lead is currently unlit. Our infrastructure team will work on this once the weather has settled.

Radio calls including channels 14, 16 and 61 are being notified hourly.
