Dunedin Railway Station is the home of scenic train tours through Otago. From the Taieri Gorge, a world-renowned journey through landscapes shaped by time, to coastal journeys on the Seasider and seasonal event trains, each experience offers a different way to travel through the region. One of the highlights of this year's Taieri Gorge Stargazer was the beautiful short film guests watched while the train was stopped at Hindon.

Set to an original soundtrack by pianist and composer Liz Conway Music, the film combines stunning time-lapse footage of the southern night sky with Winterstellar Charitable Trust's passion for protecting and celebrating our dark skies.

The good news? You don't have to wait until next year's Stargazer to experience it.

Liz will be performing the soundtrack live alongside Winterstellar Charitable Trust's film as part of a series of performances across Otago, including First Church Of Otago in Dunedin, on Saturday 5 September.

If you have the chance, it's well worth seeing.

Open to explore, free to admire.

Dunedin Railway Station welcomes visitors daily to wander through its beautifully preserved interiors. Today, the building is home to Dunedin Railway Station,
Cobb & Co. Dunedin, and Otago Art Society - OAS - blending heritage with modern life in the heart of the city.

It’s a place to slow down, look around and take it all in.

The best days out are often the ones you do not overthink.
A train ride, a warm drink, plenty of scenery and time to catch up with good company.

That sounds like a day well spent.

The night sky, captured.

From the Southern Milky Way to the Aurora Australis, Otago and Southland are home to some of the most incredible night skies in the world.

We’re proud to support the Rangi Takō Winterstellar Charitable Trust Exhibition 2026, opening at the Otago Art Society - OAS galleries upstairs at Dunedin Railway Station from 31 August to 25 September.

After working with Winterstellar on our Taieri Gorge Stargazer experiences, we’re delighted to help share their passion for our region’s extraordinary dark skies in a different way.

Come upstairs and take a look.

You do not need perfect weather for a great journey through the gorge.

Cloud, rain and mist bring their own atmosphere, making the river darker, the hills moodier, and the landscape feel even more dramatic.
