🔬🚂 It's a science show... on a train!

On 18 and 19 July, join the New Zealand International Science Festival aboard the Taieri Gorge for a hands-on journey of experiments, discovery and fun.

Explore physics, engineering, forensics and more as the train becomes a moving science lab on its journey to historic Hindon and back.

Tickets are $50 per person. Designed primarily for 5–12 year olds, with plenty for older children and adults to enjoy too.

Spotted in Fiji at the First Light Travel 25th Anniversary trip. Great to see our trade partners flying the flag and proving that our hats really are bloody gorge-ous. 🙌

Congratulations to the First Light Travel team on 25 years, and thanks for taking a little piece of the Taieri Gorge Railway along for the ride!

Why not turn the journey into a weekend away?

Travel the Taieri Gorge by rail, then stay overnight in Central Otago NZ or Discover Middlemarch and explore more of the region at your own pace.

A slower way to experience Otago.

Imagine building this with no harnesses, no guard rails, and no modern machinery.

Completed in 1887, the Wingatui Viaduct remains one of the great engineering achievements of New Zealand rail.
