Civil Supervisor
Reporting To - Commercial Manager
Location - Dunedin
Purpose of the Role
McEwan Haulage is seeking a practical, hands-on Site Supervisor for its Civil Construction side of the business to manage the day-to-day delivery of civil works across Dunedin and the wider region. McEwan Haulage’s civil team punches above its weight. We deliver quality and output well beyond our size, supported by a strong in-house trucking operation.
The role involves planning and sequencing works across earthworks, roading, pavements, and small structures, while coordinating plant, labour, materials, and subcontractors to achieve programme and quality targets. This position requires strong onsite leadership, clear communication with project managers and stakeholders, and the ability to identify and resolve issues early to keep projects running smoothly.
This is a lead from the front role, with the Supervisor expected to actively operate plant when required and maintain high standards around safety, quality, and site presentation. The successful candidate will drive health and safety, build and foster relationships with customers, ensure compliance with council and regulatory requirements, and maintain basic site records. Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise operational staff on civil construction sites.
Set clear daily work plans, priorities, and expectations.
Assist in the pricing of works.
Set up works to achieve clean handovers, with all H&S documentation completed and ready prior to starting works.
Provide on-the-ground coaching, guidance, and support to team members.
Foster a strong team culture aligned with McEwan Haulage values.
Lead by example with attitude, work ethic, and site presence.
Onsite surveying and setout
Skills, Experience & Attributes
Full, clean NZ Driver Licence (Class 2 or higher preferred).
Confident decision maker with practical problem solving skills.
Willing and capable of working on the tools and operating plant as required.
A strong background in civil construction
A minimum of 3+ years in a supervisor role is preferred.
WTR endorsements and/or heavy vehicle licences. (Preferred)
Experience with Leicia GPS & TPS systems is advantageous but not essential.
