From the Kihikihi milk man to Inter-Island linehaul… safe to say Robin Ray upgraded his ride along the way.

After 20 years with Freightlines and StraitNZ, Robin is officially hanging up the keys - and what a drive it’s been.

From the Freightlines days through to today, he’s been one of the true old-school drivers - reliable, hardworking, and never short of a story. He’s also been a great mate to many across the network, and someone who genuinely cares about the people and the industry.

We’ve even dug up a throwback to where it all began - milk bottles, short shorts and all. Some things have changed… but that grin hasn’t.

20 years of service speaks for itself. Robin’s experience, attitude, and presence will be hugely missed.

Robin, thanks for everything you’ve given over the years. Enjoy hanging up the keys to the Volvo and stepping into a well-earned retirement - you’ve earned it.

We’re proud to congratulate Gabby on achieving her full Class 4 licence - a fantastic result that reflects her commitment, skill, and determination.

A big thank you to one of our Linehaul drivers, Jarrod, for the mentoring along the way… and for confirming that a stop at the Pirongia Bakery clearly meets Class 4 standards 😉

Gabby is a great role model for women and girls looking at a future in transport, and a clear example that hard work and perseverance pay off.

A special thanks as well to George, our Hamilton Branch Manager, for supporting Gabby throughout the process - including having the Class 4 truck loaded and ready to go first thing in the morning, before fear had a chance to take over!

Wanted - Class 5 Linehaul Driver

We are looking for an experienced Class 5 Curtainside Linehaul driver to join our team in a permanent, full‑time role.

This position is predominantly Monday to Friday, however on occasion, weekend work may be required. This position will require you to stay away from home on some week nights.

What you’ll need:
- Clean Class 5 licence
- Proven experience driving Class 5 curtainside units
- Current F and D endorsements
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the North Island
- Physically fit and healthy
- Strong commitment to health and safety in the workplace

We are sad to hear of the passing of one of our own legends, Graeme Williams (W***y), who worked with us during the Freight Lines days.

W***y was highly respected and well liked by those he worked alongside. He had a knack for making the most of every kilometre on the road and, true to form, preferred the old‑school way of doing things — right down to fully utilising his log book.

Many current StraitNZ staff and former Freight Lines staff will remember him fondly. Our sympathies are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, 29 March at the Ōtorohanga Club, 107 Maniapoto Street, Ōtorohanga, at 2pm for those who wish to attend.

Rest in peace, W***y. Over and out #524, until we meet again.
