Begin your journey across the river from the home of the Maori king - Turanagawaewae, at the northernmost point of Te Awa 'The Great NZ River Ride' in Ngāruawāhia 'The River Kingdom'. You then ride south towards the largest man
made water crossing of its type in New Zealand 'The Perry Bridge' which spans the 'Mighty Waikato River', a modern masterpiece that seamlessly blends into the natural beauty of the landscape and river below. Stick around for a twilight ride and you're in for a special treat as the bridge has more to offer than meets the eye. You will continue towards Horotiu past the Ngāruawāhia golf course and towards Hamilton and our Cycle Tourism Hub at the iconic Hamilton Gardens. Beyond Hamilton, explore the quaint and serene Tamahere, with views changing from over the river to lush countryside. The trail showcasing stunning boardwalks and bridges leading you to Cambridge, 'Home of Champions' and the northern end of the trail at Lake Karapiro - finishing on an above water boardwalk. We recommend taking the full day or even 2 days to explore the entire trail as you'll find heaps of reasons to stop, take in the views, grab a selfy or two and take advantage of all the superb cafe's along the way.
