Since the 1960's it has been at the Bush Tramway Club, a heritage railway in the Waikato. $60,000 needed! A DETAILED DESCRIPTION REGARDING HEISLER 1082 AND OUR APPEAL....
Our Heisler locomotive was made by the Stearns Manufacturing Company of Erie, Pennsylvania, in the USA in 1903. This company made “geared steam locomotives” for the logging industry. It is a very rare and historical piece of eq
uipment. It is 3'6" gauge. Most Heislers built were much larger and were used in the USA. This locomotive worked at the Taupo Totara Timber Company in the heart of the N.Z. North Island from 1905 to 1945, then went on to work for Ellis & Burnand in Ongarue between 1945 and 1966. The locomotive was then purchased by The Bush Tramway Club and operated on the Glen Afton Line near Huntly until its boiler safety certificate expired in the mid 1980's. OUR APPEAL - RESTORATION FUNDING
It has been established that the boiler of 1082 is in a reasonably good condition. Work to get the boiler fixed will cost around $40,000, and other work like sheet steelwork on the cab & bunker will cost another $20,000. Just $12,000 would help us get some serious work underway. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Every dollar counts! If you can make a donation to the Heisler 1082 Appeal we will be very grateful. Imagine doing without a takeaway coffee once a week...and donating the money to our Appeal....that would be $250 over a 12 month period! HOW TO DONATE........

The BTC was formed in 1965 to rescue historic railway items from the NZ timber industry. Amongst these items was Climax 1650 and the Heisler, and a couple of geared locos made in NZ by A&G Price. The Club now operates on 5km of an old coal mining line in the northern Waikato, about 90 minutes drive south of Auckland and 45 minutes drive north of Hamilton. All members of the Club are volunteers. See www.bushtramwayclub.com for more information, or our page "The Glen Afton line - Heritage Railway". We look forward to your support - thanks in advance from the BTC Committee.
