It was great to welcome students from Pongaroa School who visited us this week!

The students made the 300 km-plus round trip from the Tararua District to Napier for a field trip, which included a special behind-the-scenes look at the airport.

They got to meet Judy Drench, our fire truck, and learnt more about airport operations and everything that goes into keeping the airport safe and running smoothly each day.

Thanks for visiting us, Pongaroa School. We loved having you here and hope to see you again! ✈️

Our proposed 12–17MW airport solar farm has reached another important milestone, with an Expression of Interest underway for potential delivery and co-investment partners.

The project is about establishing the infrastructure needed to support aviation’s changing energy requirements, while also contributing to a more resilient regional energy future.

If developed, the solar farm would cover around 24 hectares of airport land northwest of the runways, with generation capability equivalent to the annual electricity use of around 3,000 households.

There’s still work to do and no final investment decision has been made.

We’re pleased to extend our partnership with Biodiversity Hawke's Bay, continuing a relationship that first began in 2019.

The partnership supports practical environmental action across the region, including the restoration of Te Taha – The Gap, a rare remnant of Napier’s coastal shingle beach and dune ecosystem on The Esplanade in Westshore.

Together, we’re helping restore native plant populations, protect an important local habitat and strengthen the region’s long-term resilience. The partnership will also bring Biodiversity Week to Hawke’s Bay Airport later this year, giving travellers and the wider community an opportunity to discover more about our region’s remarkable natural environment.

An incredible development for the Hawke's Bay region to have Air Napier join Privatport's global executive aviation network, joining 70 locations across four continents.

📢 Exciting news, Hawke’s Bay. Air Napier has just become the first New Zealand Fixed Base Operator (FBO) to join PrivatPort’s global executive aviation network.

After providing FBO services to international clients visiting Hawke’s Bay in recent years, joining PrivatPort is an exciting step onto a much larger aviation stage for us, for Hawke's Bay Airport, and for New Zealand’s executive aviation industry.

This follows the strategic joint venture between our parent company, SO Capital, and PrivatPort, the global executive aviation division of Swissport International AG, to expand PrivatPort’s presence across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

PrivatPort CEO Josua Hildbrand says, “Air Napier brings extensive operational expertise, an outstanding reputation and a strong commitment to customer service."

As part of this next chapter, our FBO services will operate under PrivatPort, while Air Napier’s private jet charters will continue under the Air Napier brand. Napier remains the foundation of who we are, with our expertise, systems and management helping support PrivatPort’s expansion across New Zealand and the wider region.

COMING SOON: CASHLESS CARPARKING

Hawke’s Bay Airport’s carparking system is being upgraded from this Wednesday. This should make for an easier carparking experience for more airport users.

You’ll still ‘Pay By Plate’, with no tickets issued. We’re adding a payment kiosk in the Arrivals area of the terminal, and you’ll be able to pay via QR code – which will mean you can skip the queue and pay on your phone. Payment receipts will also be available at the exit barriers.

Please note, paying with cash will no longer be available from Wednesday 17 June. While only a small number of carpark users currently pay with cash, we appreciate this change may catch some people out. During a transition period, carpark users who only have the option to pay with cash will be able to do so at the Customer Service desk, or call the Intercom assistance at payment machines.

We look forward to offering airport users a smoother and more convenient carparking experience.
