Another recent project completed is the Mason Marauder 'Onassis' previously Marlin Monroe.
Planking in hull was letting go, as they do, so got glassed faired and painted. New mahogany decks to meet the original side comings, new rub rails and painted cabin tops. New trailer, original mercruiser engine and leg still hums along nicely. She's well loved and used lots by her new owner, I'm sure a few of you have seen her on the lakes at some stage.

Here is an ongoing Project that’s been in and out of the yard over the past year.

This project started some 10 odd years ago (more like 15) by our very own boat builder Blair and his father Neville.

Neville imported the 23ft Wellcraft Nova from the states with the intention of removing the v8 350ci inboard & stern drive and converting to an outboard.
The aim was to keep the boat looking as factory as possible but to gain some performance making it into a fun poker run styled racer that you could still overnight in.

Like most projects the job list soon grew from a simple conversion to a full blown rebuild. This included replacing the transom, aft sections of the hull stringers, cabin bulkhead, dash, full rewire and re-plumb, full repaint, New boarding platform & outboard pod, plus a new windscreen just to list a few.

The outboard received the same treatment with a top to bottom rebuild. Some performance and reliability modification were done bumping the outboard up to a healthy 400hp.

When the boat came into our workshop the majority of the work had already been completed by Neville & Blair and only the final rigging/ reassembly & electrical work needing to be completed.
We also took the opportunity to build a new light weight composite windscreen with teak trim.

For all the speed junkies out there here’s a little rundown on the boat & motor

The Hull is a 1985 Wellcraft Nova 230xl

~Bobs machine shop hydraulic jack plate

~Mercury racing 380s k-planes operated via indicator style switches

~Foot throttle

The Outboard is a 1990 Evinrude 4.0ltr V8 2 stroke rebuilt and modified by Owen Davies

~Wiseco forged pistons

~Finger ported block

~25” offshore midsection with open exhaust & fastrac transom assembly

~Vro removed and custom fuel rail with Mallory lift pump & Holley fuel pressure regulator added

With the engine break-in period nearly completed we have been able to start testing propellers and really opening up that throttle.
The best speed so far has been a little over 60mph but there's plenty more speed to be found yet.

KOTARE is the latest boat we have relaunched a few weeks ago. She has been a long term project for the owner. He brought us in to help finish some assembly of the roof, glassing the decks and roof then painting from head to toe!

With the end of the year as busy as ever, a sea spray update is well over due.

She hit the water in late October looking her best and sporting a new name 'Helena'

This being the first all electric powered boat to come out of our workshop, it has been a real eye opener to how far this technology has come and just how well old and new can compliment each other.

This system gives far better internal volume to the boat compared with a traditional diesel power plant and allows for a level floor throughout as the batteries are hidden under the port and starboard cabin seats.
The propulsion is provided by a steerable pod mounted just behind the keel.

This gives excellent manoeuvrability and makes docking a breeze.

We have repurposed as much of the old kauri floor boards as possible now making up the paneling on the seat fronts, cabinetry tops and trim.
The exterior kauri trims and cap rails are all new as is the black walnut floor.

With Sea Spray's hull now painted and the new top sides well underway it was time for some progress shots.

'Lady Hamilton' Fi-Glass Baron. This is a personal project that is getting some pressure, by those that know the boat, to be out fishing again!
Shes lived all her life in Tekaha and Opotiki, and has served those that have owned her pretty well. She's over 40 years old now so hopefully this work will keep her going for a while longer.
Still heaps to do, but looking back at the state I got it in, I think it's coming along alright!

Trying to keep it original looking where possible, but functional and practical also.

A 1956 16ft Jack Logan 'Sea Spray' is well under way now. Bottom replanked and turned back over to start on cabin.
An electric option has been chosen to re power it instead of diesel. This will be through a steerable pod drive mounted in place of the rudder.
