Last week we farewelled Trevor Woolston, a larger-than-life figure who challenged limits, stood firm in his convictions, and lived with purpose and determination.

Trevor’s priorities were clear: Family came first, catching fish and giving back was simply part of who he was. As one of our closest family friends, the Woolstons feature in most of our family stories.

Through founding NZ Trucking magazine, Truck & Driver, and pioneering truck shows and expos, Trevor’s vision and perspective helped shape the direction of New Zealand’s road transport industry.

He created opportunities for everyday New Zealanders to get up close to trucks and meet the people who drive them, helping build a stronger connection between the industry and the public.

A key tenet of this was his ability to spot an opportunity and chase it, as he did when he brought truck racing to New Zealand in the late 1980s, making it a household name and leaving a lasting mark on the sector.

He had a unique ability to inspire others to step back and focus on what truly mattered. It was Trevor who encouraged Mum and Dad to take time out, introducing them to Tairua and boating – a passion that became central to our family life.

Our thoughts are with Sue, Elizabeth, Olivia, Todd and Hayden. Thank you, Trevor, for your friendship, your vision and perspective – we were never left wondering. You’ve left an enduring legacy on our industry and on so many families, including ours.

It's with sadness that we share the passing of Bill Taylor, a Bonney's driver in the '80s. He was part of a tight knit group of drivers and owner-drivers who worked for Dad as he grew and diversified Bonney's.

There is a number of us who spent our childhood at Zealanian Drive - rode our bikes around the yard, 'helped' in the workshop, went to work in the holidays. Our little sister Steph went to work every day with Mum and Bill would come and eat his lunch with her (no daycare).

There were Friday nights with the Bonney's drivers and U&R mechanics along with the Bonney, Rudsits and Unkovich kids asleep in the backs of the cars. It was a different era.

With many of us now working for the respective family businesses, we continue to strive to meet the standards that these drivers set.

After his time with us, he went on to drive for Stevenson's. He'll be remembered fondly by all who knew him, our thoughts are with his family at this time.
