Ex Baby Sparrow took place at the Youth Development Unit (YDU) at Trentham over the weekend.

This helps to prepare participants heading to Skills competitions at Ohakea next month. They were able to practice some of the potential stands that will be in the competitions.

Several members of 41 Squadron attended, some for their first time. Looking forward to seeing them put what they learned into practice at Ohakea in July.

A very successful Dining In tonight to celebrate 46 years.. Thank you to our special guests, the Mayor of Porirua, Anita Baker, and WGCDR Tim Costley (RET). You have made the event memorable for everyone.

Thanks also to the officers, committee members and parents who helped and who attended with their cadets. to the NCOs who ran a fabulous night, and of course, to the cadets, who came together to celebrate 46 years of the unit.

Finally, thank you to the Porirua RSA for making their rooms available to the unit tonight.

It's been a busy few weeks! Especially as we get into the Term 2 & 3 fi****ms activities.

Saturday 9th March saw over 70 Wellington region cadets attending Ex Bullseye at Trentham - a basic fi****ms handling training day which ended in qualification to take part in range shooting. It was great to see so many of our new cadets getting involved.

On Sunday 10th May, all those that qualified attended their first range day with our friends from No 1 (City of Wellington) Squadron, Air Training Corps at Wellington Smallbore Rifle Association Royal Tiger Range.

Yesterday we held our first unit range day at Royal Tiger which saw 5 experienced cadets and 8 new cadets spending the day on the range. It was impressive to see how quickly everyone picked up the handling and range procedures. By the end of the day we were seeing some very impressive targets without the supports being used.

Before we take a break from weekend activities we look forward to welcoming our friends from No. 49 District of Kapiti Squadron, Air Training Corps to Royal Tiger this Sunday.

It is with great sadness we share the passing of SQNLDR Allen Douglas, Unit Commander of No. 49 District of Kapiti Squadron, Air Training Corps.

Our sincerest thoughts go out to Allen's family, the cadets and families of 49SQN and all those in NZCF who had the privilege of working alongside him.

🕊️ It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Squadron Leader Allen Douglas, a dedicated and highly respected member of the New Zealand Cadet Forces whose service and commitment spanned decades.

Before commissioning as an officer in 1996, Allen began his journey as a cadet with TS TUTIRA in Levin, rising to the rank of Master Cadet. He went on to serve across both the Sea Cadet Corps and Air Training Corps, holding a range of leadership and instructional appointments that positively impacted countless cadets and officers over the years.

Allen served with TS TUTIRA, No.49 (District of Kapiti) Squadron, City of Porirua Cadet Unit, and TS TAUPO, including appointments as Unit Commander, Executive Officer, Training Officer, Adjutant, and most recently Temporary Unit Commander of No. 49 SQN. His dedication to youth development and cadet training was unwavering, and his contribution to the NZCF community was enduring. Throughout his service, Allen supported numerous national activities including Sea Cadet Regattas, Cadet Coxswain Courses, Maritime Safety Officers Courses, and the ATC Skills Competition. In recognition of his long and valuable service, he was awarded the Cadet Forces Medal in 2006, followed by the 1st and 2nd Clasps to the Cadet Forces medal in 2014 and 2022 respectively.

Squadron Leader Douglas will be remembered for his leadership, mentorship, professionalism, and the lasting impact he had on generations of cadets and officers alike.

Our thoughts are with Allen’s family, friends, and all those across the NZCF community who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
Fair winds and following seas.

Allen’s funeral will be on Wednesday 13 May at 1100hrs at the Salvation Army Hall on Durham Street in Levin.

Don't forget our Fundraising - and this one is as easy as buying groceries 😀

A reminder that New World Whitby has included 41 Squadron Air Cadet Unit in their wishing well for this school term.
Every time you shop at New World Whitby, grab a token (or several) and add it to the container for the Air Cadets just outside the checkout area.

The tokens are in containers at every checkout, but if you can't see one, just ask.

At the end of the term, New World will allocate the term's funds based on the number of tokens. So it really is a case of the more the merrier!!!

Please get behind this fundraiser and feel free to share among all your family and friends.
