The New Zealand road transport industry has lost one of its true champions.

Everyone at SI Lodec was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Trevor Woolston.
For more than 30 years, SI Lodec has proudly supported Trevor's publications. During that time, we came to know Trevor not just as a publisher, but as a passionate advocate for an industry he loved and a friend. He understood trucking because he had lived it, and that authenticity earned him the respect of transport operators, suppliers and manufacturers throughout New Zealand.

Trevor's vision created much more than magazines. Through Truck & Driver and his other publications, he built a community that connected our industry, celebrated its people and showcased the businesses that keep New Zealand moving. His support gave companies like ours the opportunity to reach generations of transport operators, and we are sincerely grateful for that partnership.

Over the years we watched Trevor champion innovation, recognise excellence, and promote the professionalism of the transport industry with unwavering enthusiasm. His contribution to New Zealand trucking is immeasurable, and his legacy will continue through the publications, events and relationships he helped create.

To Sue, Hayden, Olivia, the entire Allied Publications team, Trevor's family and friends, we extend our heartfelt condolences. Our thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our former colleague and friend, Benjamin (Ben) Russell, who tragically lost his life in a vehicle accident near Tokoroa last week. He was just 29 years old and leaves behind two young children.

Ben was part of the SI Lodec family for a number of years as our Storeman, and during his time with us he made an enormous contribution to the business. He brought energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude to work every day. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and his cheerful nature made him a pleasure to work alongside.

When Ben joined SI Lodec, our stores operation was relatively small. Through his hard work, commitment, and attention to detail, he transformed it into a highly organised and efficient operation that grew significantly during his time with us. Much of what we still benefit from today reflects the systems and structure he put in place.

More importantly, Ben will be remembered as a genuinely good person—someone who always had a smile, enjoyed a laugh, and was well liked by everyone who worked with him.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends, and especially his two children during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, mate. You left a lasting mark on SI Lodec and on all of us who had the privilege of knowing you.

Workshop Foreman – Rotorua
Keep NZ’s heavy transport moving.
SI Lodec is looking for a hands-on Workshop Foreman to support in the running of our Rotorua operation. This is a practical hands on leadership role where you’ll help oversee the full workflow—from planning and installations through to fault finding, final checks, and paperwork.

You’ll be working on specialist weighing and monitoring systems fitted to trucks and industrial equipment across sectors including logging, bulk haulage, groundspreading, and civil.

What You’ll Do
• Oversee day-to-day workshop operations
• Lead and support a small technical team
• Plan and prioritise jobs to keep workflow moving
• Carry out installs, fault finding, and repairs
• Ensure quality, accuracy, and turnaround targets are met
• Get all necessary paperwork completed on time
• Keep the workshop safe, organised, and professional

Truck Driver – Class 5 (Specialist Role – Test Weight Truck)

SI Lodec is seeking an experienced Class 5 Truck Driver for a unique and varied role—not your standard driving job.

This position involves operating our Test Weight Truck, travelling throughout the North Island to support the testing, calibration, and certification of weighing systems across a wide range of industries including:
- Logging and forestry operations
- Bulk material transport fleets
- Groundspreading and rural contractors
- Quarrying and civil sites

What makes this role different?
This is not linehaul or metro freight work. You’ll be working alongside our technical team, playing a key role in ensuring compliance and accuracy for some of New Zealand’s largest transport operators.

Key Responsibilities:
- Operate SI Lodec’s specialist Test Weight Truck
- Travel extensively across the North Island
- Assist with on-site testing and calibration of weighing systems
- Work closely with technicians and customers on-site
- Maintain high standards of safety and professionalism

What we’re looking for:
- Full Class 5 licence
- Strong driving competency across varied road conditions (including rural and forestry environments)
- Practical mindset and willingness to learn technical aspects of the role
- Good communication skills – you’ll be dealing directly with customers
- Reliability and a professional approach
