Last Thursday, we spent the day at Akarana Golf Club for the 29th annual ‘Oceanbridge Charity Golf Day’.

It was a fantastic day filled with great golf, plenty of sportsmanship, and huge generosity towards our deserving charity. This year, our chosen Charity was Rei Kōtuku - Paediatric Palliative Care NZ.

are an organisation doing extraordinary work across Aotearoa in providing specialised paediatric palliative care for babies, children and teens on life’s toughest journey. They also support families experiencing the heartbreaking loss of a child, ensuring whānau receive the care, dignity, and guidance they need during some of the most difficult moments imaginable. They make a profound difference, and Oceanbridge are extremely proud to be supporting such a worthy cause.

OCEANBRIDGE GETS LOUD FOR KIDS WITH HEARING LOSS!

What is Loud Shirt Day?

In NZ, it is the national fundraising campaign for The Hearing House and the Southern Cochlear Implant Programme (SCIP) – the only two charities in New Zealand dedicated to supporting children and adults with cochlear implants as they learn to listen and communicate.

In Australia, Loud Shirt Day has 5 nominated hearing charities across the country who are supported by the campaign.

Together, these organisations support thousands of Kiwis and Aussies in every region, who access sound with cochlear implants, and Oceanbridge are proud to get amongst it! 💙

Oceanbridge Shipping has represented Grimaldi Lines of Italy since 2023 when the monthly RORO service began operating between UK, Europe and the Mediterranean to New Zealand via Melbourne.

On Tuesday 9th September in Shanghai, the Grimaldi Group welcomed the Grande Auckland, the second of seven Pure Car & Truck Carrier units.

It is wonderful to see our Principal Grimaldi Lines based in Naples naming one of their latest vessels after our very own ‘City of Sails’.

The Grande Auckland has been designed for the transport of vehicles; cars, SUVs, vans (both electric and powered by traditional fuels), as well as other types of rolling cargo, and has a loading capacity of 9,241 CEU! (that’s Car Equivalent Units) – imagine that many cars parked up over many many rugby fields!

Sustainability remains a priority for Grimaldi Group; with cutting edge technology and next generation systems, the Grande Auckland reduces the CO2 emission index per transported cargo, by up to 50% compared to previous generation PCTC vessels.

This new ship is being deployed on the Asia to Europe service but hopefully we will get to see the ‘Grande Auckland’ call NZ one day!

Another Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Season is done and dusted, and we thought it important to share the outcomes of this season. We would also like to thank our customers for their vigilance in this very important yearly program and have included some stats as below that we are sure you will find interesting.

The 2024/25 high-risk season has been quieter than most. There were 38 live detections between September and April, compared with 111 in the 2023/24 season.

BMSB can damage a wide range of crops and fruit trees. It has aggressively invaded the US and Europe and could establish in New Zealand. The cargo pathway again saw high numbers of dead BMSB (642), highlighting the importance of our offshore treatment and cleaning requirements for high-risk goods such as vehicles, parts, and machinery.

It has been a collective effort to intercept, contain, and report BMSB findings. The information we get from this joint effort allows us to assess the effectiveness of our biosecurity interventions, including whether approved treatment providers and offshore systems are working as they should. It also allows MPI to identify new risk countries, cargo types, and suppliers of interest, and to respond quickly to detections.

The next BMSB season will start again on the 1st of September 2025.
