Today is World Senior Citizens Day, a day that recognises and appreciates senior citizens for all their accomplishments and contributions to the community we live in today. Senior citizens are valued members of society, who have plenty of kind wisdom and experience to share with the younger generation.

They are often overlooked and undermined because of their fragile state, but they have played a huge role in history, either in our communities, the workforce, or in our daily households. World Senior Citizens Day is a great opportunity to show them love and plenty of kindness in celebrating their golden age and their presence in our lives.

What is something you have learned from a grandparent or someone alike?

Throughout our lives we all want to stay connected with friends and family, maintain our independance and keep doing the things we enjoy. That is why it is important to look at our options for staying connected as we age. Whether this means continuing to drive familiar routes or stop driving completely. This does not mean that you should stop doing the things you love and connecting with your community. Driving Miss Daisy wants to keep you connected in the community and get you out and about so that you can keep your independance.

One of the top asked questions - We are often asked at Driving Miss Daisy, what is the difference between you and a standard taxi

The main differences is that we are all first-aid trained, are Dementia Friends and have disability awareness as well as full Police Vetting. We spend time with our customers, either in their homes or at their chosen location, offering quality companionship and assistance or simply taking notes in appointments for them.

Many clients are simply lonely or lacking in confidence and appreciate travelling with someone who cares.
Our vehicles are designed to take wheelchairs, and guide dogs; we also carry aids to assist clients when getting in to our cars. The key point is you don’t have to have a disability to use us, just be someone who appreciates a quality service.
