Increased diesel prices are having a ‘huge impact’ on trucking companies but the real victims, they say, are the general public who will be forking out more for everything.

Engineered Effluent Storage Pond.

Joe designed and built this pond from the ground up using GPS, turning a blank site into a finished result with precision the whole way through.

No shortcuts. No guesswork.

Proud of this one. Big credit to Joe.

Glenn and I just want to say a big thanks to the team.

This job was full chaos, fast moving, long hours, but everyone just got stuck in and made it happen.

Considering how quick everything had to move, it all came together pretty smoothly, which says a lot about the crew.

Really appreciate the effort. Awesome work team 👊

Great news! We've reopened State Highway 39 with a temporary bridge installed beside Mangati Bridge.

We've put the temporary Acrow bridge in place following the original bridge being destroyed in the February floods. It's a single‑lane bridge operated by traffic lights and has a 50‑tonne weight limit.

An Acrow bridge is a modular steel bridge used around the world in emergency situations, similar to a Bailey bridge, but stronger and able to carry heavier loads.

A big thank you for your patience while workers have been installing the bridge.

We're moving quickly on a permanent solution, fast tracking the design and procurement of a new two-lane replacement bridge, with construction planned for spring.

You can keep up to date with our work by following this page, and there's more information available on our website: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/sh-maintenance-programme/waikato

Been good working along side McGuire drainage

Here’s an update on our progress building a temporary bridge on State Highway 39 south of Pirongia in Waikato, after the floods in February destroyed Mangati Bridge.

Workers are making quick progress setting up the site for the single-lane Acrow temporary bridge to be assembled and installed. This photo from Wednesday shows pile-driving for the temporary bridge foundations and progress on the approaches. At the same time, workers are also cleaning up debris and preparing the site for the future new permanent bridge.

We anticipate Downer installing and finishing the Acrow bridge mid-March. The bridge will have a 50-tonne maximum weight, and we’ll use traffic lights or sensors to control traffic across the bridge.

Acrow bridges are made of steel and bolted together in sections. They’re very similar to the temporary Bailey bridges used after Cyclone Gabrielle, except they’re stronger, wider, and last longer.

While workers are busy onsite we’re doing accelerated design and procurement for the new permanent bridge. We expect to start building the bridge later this year.

Thanks to everyone, especially people in communities south of Pirongia, for your patience, and to workers with local contractors McGuire Drainage and Contracting for the work onsite, including shifting several hundred tonnes of debris. We look forward to having this part of SH39 restored and communities reconnected very soon.
