For three weeks last month the State Highway 1 Wellington Urban Motorway was closed overnight to make significant improvements to the road.

Roadworkers were able to complete over 30,000 square metres of road resurfacing, installed 21 digital signs and 260 metres of barrier, 16 structural inspections, cleared over one kilometre of vegetation and tree trimming, signage replacement, cleared drains, and replaced damaged sump gates.

Ongoing maintenance and improvements overnight means we can complete as much work as possible while reducing disruption for people travelling along the motorway, and keeps roadworkers safe.
