| BURNHAM LAKE REOPENS 🛶🚣

The Burnham Lake in Baguio City finally reopens today, September 1, in time for the city's 117th Charter Anniversary.

The rehabilitation project was funded by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).

The lake was closed in October 2025 to make way for the extensive improvement project.

On Saturday, August 22, residents from Barangays Hapao, Ba-ang, and Nungulunan gathered at the Nunhipukana along the Hapao River to observe 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗸, the climactic post-harvest ritual of their traditional thanksgiving festival, 𝘏𝘶𝘸𝘢𝘩.

Dressed in red, community members engaged in the 𝘨𝘶𝘺𝘺𝘶𝘥𝘢, a traditional tug-of-war in the rushing river using 𝘱𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘥 (hooked wooden poles) and the 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘢-𝘢𝘨 (a symbolic human figure woven from rice stalks). Far beyond a test of physical strength, this spirited contest honors community unity, gratitude, and prayers for future abundance.

Once the tugging ends, the 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘢-𝘢𝘨 is set adrift downstream, a signal to neighboring villages that the harvest is complete and the land is ready for a new cycle.

Punnuk is officially recognized as part of UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity under the shared "Tugging Rituals and Games" across rice-farming cultures in Asia.

| Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong has suspended face-to-face classes from Preschool to Grade 12 in both public and private schools in Baguio City on Tuesday, August 11, due to inclement weather brought by the Southwest Monsoon.

To ensure the continuity of learning, schools shall implement the appropriate alternative delivery modalities, including:
Modular Distance Learning
Online Distance Learning
Blended Learning

Public schools shall implement the appropriate HINAY Protocol in accordance with Department of Education (DepEd) guidelines to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of learning.

The suspension of face-to-face classes at the college level shall be at the discretion of university and college administrators, taking into consideration their respective assessments and recommendations.
●University of the Cordilleras: Classes are not suspended.
●Saint Louis University: Classes are not suspended. However, students who are unable to travel due to weather conditions will be excused.
●University of Baguio: Will implement asynchronous learning until the end of the week, until August 14.
●Baguio Central University: Will implement asynchronous learning until the end of the week, until August 14.
●Easter College Baguio: Classes are suspended.
●University of the Philippines Baguio: Will implement asynchronous learning.

The list of decisions from the universities will be updated once universities give updates.
