Nelson Padchonga, a graduating student from the Benguet State UniversityโCollege of Teacher Education, was named one of the finalists in the Outstanding Student Leaders of the Philippines (OSLP) 2026.
He emerged as one of the 40 finalists out of more than 200 nominees nationwide following assessment, validation, and evaluation conducted by TRAC Philippines.
The Outstanding Student Leaders of the Philippines recognizes student leaders who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, service, and community involvement.
Pachonga has held various leadership and journalism positions within the university. For Academic Year 2025โ2026, he simultaneously served as the 4th Year Representative of the Association of Language and Literature Students (ALLS), Student Consultant of the Secondary Education Pre-service Teachersโ Society (SEPTS), and Senior Staff Writer of The Blue Courier.
Prior to these roles, he served as Mayor of SEPTS for A.Y. 2024โ2025, Junior Staff Writer of The Blue Courier for A.Y. 2023โ2024, Student Consultant of ALLS for A.Y. 2023โ2024, and Chairperson of ALLS for A.Y. 2022โ2023.
In his post, Pachonga expressed gratitude by dedicating the recognition to the organizations where he had served.
โI dedicate this national recognition to BSU College of Teacher Education, especially to these three organizations: CTE - Association of Language and Literature Students, BSU CTE - Secondary Education Pre-service Teachersโ Society, and CTE - The Blue Courier,โ he said.
He also shared his experience during the interview process, which included discussions on leadership and national issues.
โMas kinabahan ako sa interview. But, they admired how I speak from the ground. Plus the test of knowledge on national issues,โ Pachonga added.
Despite his nervousness during the selection process, Pachonga expressed gratitude to TRAC Philippines for the recognition.
The finalists of OSLP 2026 are set to proceed to the next stages of the selection process, including formation activities and the final interview.
The final results will announce the Top 10 winners out of the 40 finalists, determined through a competitive screening process.
