𝗖𝗧𝗘 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 70 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀
The College of Teacher Education (CTE) celebrated its platinum anniversary during the 70th Foundation Day held on September 3 at the CTE lounge.
With the theme "Nurturing Culture, Fostering Inclusivity, and Sustaining Green Advocacy,” students, faculty , staff, alumni, and visitors gathered to commemorate the event.
The event started with a thanksgiving mass graced by Rev./Atty. Matias C. Angiwan Jr. of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP).
College Dean Dr. Divina M. Yango welcomed the attendees and emphasized the college’s growth in instruction, research, and extension services.
“We commemorate the seven decades of the college existence and productive service in teacher training,” she said.
Meanwhile, Benguet State University (BSU) President Dr. Kenneth Laruan joined the celebration and described CTE’s 70-year journey as a remarkable one that represents decades of preparing teachers to enter classrooms not simply to teach but to inspire, influence, and transform lives.
Former BSU Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) and CTE Dean, Dr. Percyveranda Lubrica graced the event as guest speaker.
Dr. Lubrica shared how CTE has nurtured its culture of leadership through accreditation, performance management, and teaching excellence.
“We speak of what have been done resulting to what we are looking now,” she pointed out.
Under the eight-year tenure of Dr. Lubrica from 1999 to 2007 as Dean, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) advanced its academic offerings by proposing the Bachelor of Science in Teaching Agri-Industrial Technology, updating the Library Science curriculum into a Bachelor of Science in Library and Information Science, and expanding student services and institutional resources.
𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙀𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙄𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙏𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚
Mr. Russel Fitz Wadasen presented Project WEAVERS(Weaving Education, Action, and Volunteerism towards Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability), which focuses on green advocacy and environmental responsibility.
The project includes initiatives such as vertical gardening, composting, recycling, and aqua phonics, among others.
Dr. Alexandra Sad-ang introduced Project SAKLAW, which advocates diversity and social belonging through inclusive teaching. The project includes Filipino Sign Language (FSL) tutorials for in-service and pre-service teachers, digital billboards, and peer mentorship.
“Inclusive of all seeds to grow in this good soil,” Dr. Sad-ang asserted.
Students from the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) Major in Mathematics performed a worship song through Filipino Sign Language.
Furthermore, Dr. Imelda Parcasio outlined Project ILI to ILI, which aims to strengthen cultural education and heritage preservation within the college. The project emphasizes how one community connects with another through the expression of music, attire, dances, and their way of life.
CTEians from the KONTAD cultural group and other RSOs presented the proper ways of wearing different bahag and tapis and performed cultural dances.
𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙏𝙀 𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮
The college also looked back to its history led by Information Officer Johna Belardo who traced the institution’s beginnings as a teacher training program to its present stature as a nationally recognized college.
Teacher education at Benguet State University began in 1930 with a special normal course. The institution later formed programs in education such as home economics, nutrition, technology, and agriculture.
In 1984, the College of Teacher Education was formally established as a separate academic institute.
By the first semester of school year 1989–1990, the college implemented the curricula for the Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education programs.
At present, the college offers nine undergraduate programs, including Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Secondary Education with majors in English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Values Education, and Technology and Livelihood Education.
It also offers graduate programs, including the Doctor of Philosophy in Education major in Educational Management.
Meanwhile, the CTE Student Government also organized booth-making festivities, competitions and other activities through Pan-aADIVAYan held in the afternoon.
