🏪 Negosyong Bigas: Buhay Trader vs. Buhay Retailer

Paano nga ba nakakaapekto ang ₱50/kg price cap sa mga negosyante? Magkaiba ang kwento ng mga nasa supply chain:

🚛 Mga Importers/Traders: Buhay pa rin. Nasa ₱37-₱38/kg ang puhunan (landed cost) ng imported rice, kaya may margin pa sila para sa transport at storage. Kailangan lang maging maingat sa timing ng pag-import!
🏪 Mga Retailers (Tindera sa Palengke): Sila ang IPIT! 😰 Strikto ang DA sa pagbabantay ng price cap. Kapag itinaas ng trader ang wholesale price, si retailer ang sasalo ng lugi kasi bawal sila magbenta nang lampas ₱50/kg sa mga mamimili. Be kind to your local rice retailers today!

🧑‍🌾 Ang Aray ng Ating mga Magsasaka 💔

Stable nga ang presyo sa palengke, pero umiiyak naman ang mga magsasaka natin. Dahil sa pagbaha ng imported na bigas, bumagsak ang bentahan ng palay (farmgate price) sa ₱10 - ₱12/kg na lang sa ilang probinsya!

Ang masaklap? Ang puhunan (production cost) nila ay nasa ₱18 - ₱20/kg. Lugi talaga. 😔 Bumibili man ang NFA ng ₱21/kg, hindi naman sapat ang pondo para bilhin ang lahat ng ani. Dahil sa baon sa utang, baka bumagsak ng 15-20% ang lokal na ani natin by Q4 dahil marami ang walang pambili ng fertilizer o titigil muna sa pagtatanim.

⚖️ Rice Policies to Watch: Price Caps & Dynamic Tariffs

The government is aggressively intervening to tame inflation (and it's working slightly—rice inflation dropped to 15% in June). Here is what the DA is pushing for:

🛑 Price Caps: Recommending a 60-day extension of the ₱50/kg cap on imported rice to prevent profiteering.
📉 Tariffs: Shifting from a flat 15% to a dynamic tariff framework (15% to 35%) linked to global prices to cushion local market shocks.

🚢 Bumabaha ng Imported na Bigas?

Dahil sa naging epekto ng El Niño at sobrang mahal na fertilizer, kinailangan nating mag-import ng record-breaking 2.75 million metric tons (MT) ng bigas sa unang kalahati palang ng 2026! 🤯

Sabi ng USDA, baka umabot pa tayo sa 5.7 million MT bago matapos ang taon. Tayo pa rin ang Number 1 rice importer sa buong mundo. Yes, may sapat tayong bigas ngayong lean season, pero ang malaking tanong: paano na kaya ang ating local farmers? 🤔
