CROSSING BETWEEN ISLANDS | Ferry Life in the Philippines
Very early in the morning I traveled to the ferry ports between Negros and Cebu to document everyday life around one of the busiest island crossings in the central Philippines.
What started with a last-minute sprint onto a departing passenger ferry slowly turned into a fascinating documentary about movement between islands: passengers, truck drivers, ferry crews, fishermen, vendors, backpackers and small traders all sharing the same routes across the water.
This video is not a travel vlog, but an observational documentary about the daily rhythm of ferries connecting islands and people in the Philippines.
Along the way:
trucks and motorcycles board RoRo ferries
passengers wait in crowded terminals
fishermen prepare breakfast beside the shore
cargo is moved by hand
ferries arrive and depart nonstop
and even motorcycle traders carrying grass brooms continue their journeys to Cebu
One of the highlights for me was being allowed to film for a few minutes on the bridge of a brand-new RoRo ferry during the crossing.
I spent a lot of time editing this documentary and carefully preserving the original atmosphere and sounds of the ports and ferries.
I hope you enjoy this small glimpse into everyday ferry life in the Philippines.
