Balancing dreams and motherhood: One mompreneur’s leap of faith
For many Filipino moms, balancing work and family is never easy—but for Sheena Mallari, it became the reason to take a bold step forward. At the height of the pandemic, she faced uncertainty as a first-time mother with no steady income. “There was a time when we had no food for a day. Our baby survived through breastfeeding and cloth diapers to help us save money,” Mallari recalls.
Determined to provide, Sheena and her partner turned their love for homemade sweets into what is now Jakesheen’s Homemade Spreads. “We wanted to create something delicious and affordable that people would enjoy. Through hard work, courage, and faith, we slowly grew the business from our small beginnings.” From just ₱2,000, the business has grown into a thriving home-based brand with loyal customers and resellers nationwide.
Balancing motherhood and business remain a daily commitment. With support from her partner and PLDT Home’s Madiskarte Moms PH community, she found strength and inspiration to keep going. “The success stories of other moms encouraged me to keep going and believe in our business journey.”
Today, her journey—recognized at the 4th Gawad Madiskarte—continues to inspire. “Our business gave our family hope and motivation to continue striving for a better life,” she shares. “There will always be challenges along the way, but moms like myself just have to keep going and believe in ourselves. We are capable of building something meaningful while taking care of our families.”
