Untorn
Courage with a wiser mind. For the woman who stopped bleeding for lovers who only liked the armor.
I walk in with *beauty* they don’t know how to name
– I read storms before they start
I can chart the shallows, and I know my own heart
And I carry courage like a blade I forged alone
I’m no longer left to be torn
By lovers who wanted the glow, but feared the fire I was born
They loved my beauty, my brains, my courage like a war they could win
Now I choose who gets in.
I’ve memorized exit signs in every man’s eyes
Learned that forever is a language some just improvise
I can lead, I can fight, I can sail through any blue
But I won’t beg for harbor from a ship that won’t dock for truth
And I’ve got the courage to sleep in peace alone
To call my name the sweetest one I’ve ever known
And now I know, I’m no longer left to be torn_
By lovers who drank from my wisdom, then called me a storm
So I set myself free, and I know my own way
You can’t be torn if you’re already whole
So take your half-loves, I’m keeping my soul
I am the wind, I am the warning, I am the calm after sworn.
Watch me rise.
