Yung akala natin nakasave tayo ng work at shortcut yun pala in the long run meron pala hidden defects.. Aminin natin karamihan satin hilig ng ganito yung mga wala sa manual na repairs.. XD
In a final report released in 2026, the NTSB revealed the cause of the terrifying 2023 Alaska Airlines landing at John Wayne Airport in California where the left landing gear collapsed on touchdown, sending sparks flying down the runway as passengers screamed in terror, and the answer was chillingly mundane.
A mechanic performing a routine overhaul in 2018 applied excessive grinding to a metal trunnion pin in the landing gear, introducing microscopic heat damage to the metal that was completely invisible at the time.
Over the next five years and more than 4,000 landing cycles, a fatigue crack slowly grew from that heat damage, completely undetected during regular inspections, until the pin finally fractured on touchdown during Tropical Storm Hilary.
The NTSB warned that "even relatively mild heat exposure from grinding during overhaul can lead to cracking" and catastrophic failure, meaning a single moment of slightly too much pressure from a maintenance technician's tool in 2018 set the clock ticking on a disaster that wouldn't happen for five years. All 112 passengers and crew survived, but the aircraft was destroyed.
