The Philippines' first locally developed electric passenger ferry, M/B Dalaray, was featured during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA). This is a proud milestone for Filipino innovation and sustainable transportation.

Developed by the UP Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute and through the support of DOST Philippines and DOST-PCIEERD, MB Dalaray Electric Ferry showcases how research and development can power greener and smarter mobility solutions for our communities. More than an electric ferry, it is proof that homegrown technologies are helping shape a future-ready Philippines.

"DOST PUSHES FILIPINO E-MOBILITY INNOVATIONS AS FUEL PRICES SURGE

Homegrown EV technologies offer practical, sustainable relief for Filipino commuters.

In response to the continuing upward trajectory of fuel prices, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), is urging wider adoption of Filipino-made electric vehicle (EV) innovations, positioning e-mobility as an accessible and practical alternative for Filipino commuters and transport operators.

DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr. emphasized the urgency of adopting sustainable transport technologies. “We made smart, long-term investments in Filipino e-mobility research. With the continuing rise of global fuel prices, these technologies offer a real, practical way for Filipinos to save on costs while contributing to cleaner communities,” he said."
