The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), under the guidance of DOTr Secretary Giovanni โBanoyโ Z. Lopez, summoned the operator of the passenger bus that figured in a road crash in Camarines Sur on the night of April 8 and left at least five people dead.
LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the operation of the involved passenger bus owned by the Mark-Eves Transit Corporation was also suspended pending the result of the investigation into the incident.
โThis was an unfortunate incident that the bus driver, through the bus company, needs to explain a lot. We have already started getting information regarding the incident and we want to hear the side of the driver and the bus company in the interest of due process,โ said Chairperson Mendoza.
This is the reason why the LTO-Region 5 has already issued a show cause order which was already received by the concerned bus company.
Based on the initial police report, the bus was heading to Tabaco, Albay on Wednesday night when the driver was apparently surprised by the presence of a plastic barrier on the road along Andaya Highway in Ragay, Camarines Sur.
As a result, the driver swerved in the opposite direction and hit a rescue vehicle of a local government unit.
The strong impact of the collision resulted in five of the people on board the rescue vehicle being thrown off. They all died as a result of the incident. At least eight other people were injured.
The bus driver left after the incident but later surrendered to the local police.
โWe in the LTFRB extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victims who died in this tragic incident. We assure them that justice will be served,โ said Chairperson Mendoza.
He said he already instructed the LTFRB Region 5, headed by Regional Director Joel Defeo, to extend assistance by initiating measures for the release of the insurance payment both to the injured victims and those who died in the incident.
Chairperson Mendoza said he will be strictly monitoring the progress of the case. #
