Bani Shaybah (Banī Shaybah) are the traditional hereditary custodians of the Kaaba’s key. Their role, known as Sidānah al-Kaʿbah, involves safeguarding the key and opening and closing the Kaaba. The custodianship was entrusted to their ancestor ʿUthmān ibn Ṭalḥah, and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ returned the key to him after the Conquest of Makkah, establishing the family’s continuing responsibility.
